Sleeping next to the pet is a sign of a peaceful sleep for many people. After all, this can bring us a complete sense of comfort and security. However, we almost never think about why our friend adopts certain poses at bedtime. Animal behavior expert Peter Neville, along with other animal welfare experts from the company Itchpet, specializing in veterinary products, explains what’s behind the most common sleeping positions of our pets.
O awesome.club was very interested in the topic. After all, the position of sleep can say a lot about the psychological state of our friends and about their attitude towards us humans. Check out!
1. Close to the feet
If the pet lies close to your feet, this is not always a sign of respect. Much less an indication that he knows the bed is his place. You probably move a lot in your sleep, causing your pet to choose the place closest to you without running the risk of ending up in an inconvenient position in the middle of the night.
2. Between your bent legs
If you sleep in the fetal position and your pet snuggles right between your folded legs, he has complete confidence in you and holds you responsible for his safety and well-being. This is usually how puppies sleep with their mothers. By sleeping like this, your friend is demonstrating that he feels protected, literally sleeping like a baby.
3. Between the legs
If your pet sleeps between your legs looking like a ball, he is probably trying to isolate himself from noises that may bother him at night. Both dogs and cats are able to hear sound frequencies much higher than humans. So they try to shield themselves from these unwanted noises in the warm, “soundproof” comfort of their legs.
4. Between you and your partner
If the pet tries to squeeze between you and your partner, he’s looking for a place where he can feel warm and secure. But this sleeping position may also indicate that the pet may be trying to keep the other person away from you. Probably the animal is jealous and therefore tries to get your attention.
5. Invading the pillow
If the pet steals all your pillow, it is looking for more comfort and softness at bedtime. In this case, early in the morning, he will wake you up to ask for food, and preferably as soon as possible.
6. Passionate about sleeping under the sheet
If your pet loves to snuggle under the sheet, then he is looking for additional comfort and security. Other than that, some dogs feel better when they sleep under a blanket.
7. Close to the face
If your pet slowly climbs towards your head, he tends to be very dependent on you and tries to show his love by sleeping as close to your face as possible, where he can feel your heart beat and hear your breathing while you sleep.
8. Embraced
If your pet prefers to sleep cuddling with you, it means he needs to see your face and feel your heartbeat. This gives the animal additional confidence that everything is in order with its beloved owner. In addition, the position gives the animal the ability to quickly move to other parts of the bed or get out of it if you turn or change positions during sleep.
9. “Superhero” position
The little animal lies stretched out on its stomach beside you. Generally, this position is more common for dogs than for cats. In this way, the pet demonstrates that it wants to keep as much contact as possible with you while also being able to receive some affection. Otherwise, the animal chooses this position so that it can react as quickly as possible to any external stressors and defend the well-being of its owner.
10. Taking up the whole bed
When you wake up in the morning, do you find yourself on the verge of falling out of bed while your pet is all relaxed right in the middle of it? Sure enough, when she lay down to sleep, her pet was lying in a position that was comfortable for both of them. However, after you fell asleep, the little animal began to take up more and more space in the bed in order to be as comfortable as possible. This attitude is characteristic of animals spoiled by owners, who know that they will fulfill all their wishes.
