If you think wearing accessories is a guarantee of good taste, we are sorry to disappoint you. Regardless of your interest in jewelry and costume jewelry, you need to follow some rules to always look stylish.
O awesome.club prepared a list of the most frequently made mistakes that make jewelry look cheap, old-fashioned and unattractive. Is it time to renew your accessories drawer?
1. Accessory sets
Jewelry can create elegant and stylish looks, but it can also come across as cheap and tasteless. This last hypothesis usually happens in the case of sets. But don’t rush to get rid of them: sets are usually cheap and allow you to create more than one look.
When you wear the same ring, bracelet, necklace and earrings all at the same time, the low cost of the set will be very evident. However, when taken separately, the same elements can look very elegant.
2. Semi-precious stones
If zirconium is practically identical to a diamond, the same cannot be said for colored semiprecious stones, which tend to look pretty cheap. The most popular jewelry tends to look like plastic jewelry for children. They often have an unnatural color and fragile joints, which can cause the stone to simply fall off.
Consider investing in the following options: amethyst, garnet, topaz, peridot. They look very elegant when framed in silver, and they are affordable.
3. Cheap metal
Cheap jewelry can even perfectly match your look and look elegant, until they fall and reveal the secret of their not-so-noble origin, expressed in the form of mottled skin.
To avoid this problem, do not use fittings made of nickel or copper (or combinations made of these metals). Silver can also leave dark marks on the skin, but this happens far less often.
4. Weight
The low cost of an accessory is also evidenced by its light weight. Instead of using metals, manufacturers use cheap alloys painted gold or silver. A cheap jewelry ends up revealing itself by moving around in the frame, damaging its look as a whole.
When buying jewelry, choose models with glass inserts, not plastic.
5. Metal too shiny
The surface of cheap jewelry is often coated with specific compounds to enhance shine. Yes, gold and silver are also rhodium-treated to give them an aristocratic shine, but after processing, the precious metals look natural, that’s the difference.
Take a close look at the jewelry you are considering buying. Is that really what silver looks like? If so, buy without hesitation.
6. Jewelry for couples
Chains with pendants divided in half (with inscriptions such as “better half” or “I love you”) have been out of fashion for about 15 years. And if they are bearable in children, in adults they are ridiculous.
Do you want to wear jewelry for couples in order to enhance your feelings for the special person? Prefer identical rings, chains or pendants. Or get a tattoo, as we show in this post.
7. Romantic motives
The abundance of hearts, angels, cats, bears and puppies will leave you looking, if not a child, at least a teenager. The symbol of love can take on more elegant forms, you can bet.
Accessories of this type can even look elegant, but they need to be chosen with special care. Also, don’t go overboard with cartoon motifs and romantic themes.
8. Clear / enameled stones
When choosing jewelry or jewelry with semi-precious stones, prefer dark tones: intense blue, brown, burgundy. More likely, yellow, light blue, or red stones will make your accessory look cheaper. The same rule applies to enameled accessories: dark tones look much better in these cases too.
9. Mixing styles and materials
Nowadays, mixing different textures, hues and materials is all the rage. A mandatory requirement: everything must match each other. For example, you can create a beautiful look with a set of leather bracelets in different thicknesses and shades, or with a set of chains in the same style. But a gold chain along with leather or plastic will create an odd look. It is better to use plastic necklaces and beads separately. In large quantities, these pieces always look cheap.
