Yes, we Brazilians like (a lot) a party. And nothing better than celebrating the arrival of the new year with lots of light, music and parties. That Rio de Janeiro, with about 2 million people on Copacabana beach, is the largest New Year’s Eve in the world in terms of number of people, this is nothing new.
O awesome.club list below eight other big New Year parties in Brazil. It’s not like that… a New Year’s Eve in Copacabana. But you can have a lot of fun. Check out.
Importance of New Year’s Eve in Brazil
It is the second largest concentration of people around a celebration in Brazil, second only to Carnival. And the number of visitors increases year after year, bringing benefits to various sectors of the economy, especially the hotel industry, which records occupancy levels in excess of 90% at that time.
9. Fortress
As every year, Iracema beach should receive a real crowd. And to prove that people from Ceará know how to throw a party, they promise no less than 12 hours of musical attractions and the biggest fireworks display in Brazil, lasting almost 20 minutes. As a bonus, a ferris wheel (put giant in that) was imported from China to entertain visitors.
9. Florianopolis
The capital of Santa Catarina will also put on a fireworks show with only 20% of the original noise. They will be shot from rafts that will be on Avenida Beira Mar Norte. The beautiful Hercílio Luz bridge, which connects the island to the mainland, makes up the wonderful postcard of the festival. A synchronized water show with projection of images and sounds is also part of the party.
7. Savior
The capital of Bahia is the place in Brazil where Carnival starts before and ends after everyone else. And the same happens with the New Year’s Eve party, which is not restricted to December 31st, but to five days with an impressive number of 300 artists performing. The party has grown so much that today it is held at Orla Boca do Rio, where an aero club used to be. It is the right destination for those who want to check out the biggest names in axé.
6. Reef
New Year’s Eve in Recife is held on the edge of Boa Viagem beach and is filled with Pernambuco rhythms. The concerts are divided into two stages, one located on Praia da Pina, and the other, on Boa Viagem beach, with only female singers. The 16 tons of fireworks are fired from three rafts located at sea.
5. Christmas
A real crowd gathers around the square located next to the Church of Pedra da Redinha, where the stage for shows is set up. The fireworks are set up at two points: Ponte Negra beach and Newton Navarro Bridge, postcards of the city.
4. Maceio
The biggest concentration point at the turn of the year in Maceió is at Cruz das Almas beach, on Avenida Litorânea. However, the city is taken over by various parties, many of them popular and many private, which gives the feeling of a huge New Year’s Eve in the capital of Alagoas.
3. Balneário Camburiú
The city that brings together the largest skyscrapers in Brazil has just over 100,000 inhabitants. However, during the summer, it receives more than 1 million visitors. On New Year’s Eve, they crowd the sands of Praia Central, waiting for the fireworks display that can be seen from any point along its more than 7 km of shoreline.
2. Sao Paulo
One of the differentials of the party that fills Avenida Paulista from beginning to end will be the fireworks display without loud noises, silent, but with the promise of being very colorful. The attractions begin to perform a little before 6 pm on December 31st and last until dawn with various styles, including the participation of a samba school. Those who like a race can still arrive earlier and attend the São Silvestre party, the most traditional street race in the country.
1. Rio de Janeiro
Copacabana beach, in the south of the city of Rio de Janeiro, should receive close to 2 million people again. The schedule starts well before the turn of the year, with several shows spread across the stages. Fireworks from previous parties lasted an incredible 17 minutes. If you want to escape the huge crowd that forms there, the city hall is also organizing parties in the Flamengo neighborhood, Parque da Madureira, and Paquetá.
