The world has many interesting places, where everything seems from another planet: the customs, the people and their characteristics. And in them it seems that the residents are united by some kind of secret. So it’s always good to have a chance to find out more about what’s going on in these places and find out some details.

O awesome.club invites you on a journey through the most surprising corners of the Earth.

1. “Gnome Kingdom” (China)

It is not always easy for people who are different from the majority to live in our world. But near Kunming, some of them have a fairytale kingdom. This space was created by Chen Mingjing, who invited dwarves from all over the country who were in trouble. Now, about 125 people, aged between 19 and 48, live there.

The locals wear gnome clothes, angels, elves, princesses and guards. The houses are similar to trees and mushrooms, and the plumbing and furniture were custom made for them. Over there, they live comfortably and don’t have to deal with other people’s jokes.

Furthermore, everyone is employed🇧🇷 They give presentations to tourists and organize tours. On weekends, locals do housework, play cards and volleyball, or attend free English classes.

Despite the controversy raised by the “tall people” about the community, the residents are very happy. They live in a welcoming world, where they have a home and work, as well as an infrastructure for them, with a school, clinic, shops, a cafeteria and even a flower shop.

2. Pirarrã Indians / The happiest tribe

The tribe, which lives here in Brazil, near the tributary of the Amazon, is considered the happiest🇧🇷 And they… don’t know how to count, but they have 2 “numbers”: “many” and “many”, as well as 2 colors: “light” and “dark”. They don’t know time and calendars, they eat 1 to 2 times a day and sleep from time to time for 20 minutes, as “long sleep consumes energy”.

They have only 3 degrees of relationship: a child, a parent and a brother/sister. There are no teachings or hierarchies, but no one steals or kills.

They have no sense of ownership nor prejudices, and were not persuaded by the preaching of Daniel Everett. On the contrary, it was the white man who accepted the tribe’s worldview, and the language with 3 vowels and 7 consonants completely changed his knowledge of linguistics.

Pirarras are happy, sing at night and believe that dreams and reality are equally important. Once every 7 years they change their names, remembering the names and properties of thousands of plants and animals. Your children do not play with toys, but with trees, flowers, dogs and forest spirits.

3. Icaria / The Island of Longevity

Alzheimer’s disease and the so-called “diseases of aging” are extremely rare. Stamatis Moraitis (pictured above) came over from the US when doctors said he had 9 months of life🇧🇷 The Greek returned to his home country with his family in 1976, and lived happily for another 37 years.

In Icaria, people don’t hurry, work without getting tired, walk on mountain paths, eat fruits grown in the own gardens🇧🇷 They love olive oil, sourdough bread, goat’s milk and herbal tea – basically the celebrated Mediterranean diet. And in the evenings, they have happy get-togethers with their neighbors, where they share a pitcher of wine.

When a birthday girl who celebrated her 101 years was asked what her secret was, she joked, “Here we just forget to die!”

4. Cândido Godói / “The land of the twins”

The absolute leader city in the birth of twins is Cândido Godói, in Rio Grande do Sul🇧🇷 Just in a neighborhood there are 44 pairs of twins in 80 families🇧🇷 Most of the inhabitants are descendants of the Germans who started to move there during the First World War. In the early 1990s, the phenomenon of twins became known abroad, and journalists from different countries arrived to see it up close. This pleased the local authorities, who began to call the city the “land of the twins”. In addition, an exhibition was organized in a museum and the statue of the “fertility fountain” was installed.

Researchers have given different versions of the origin of this phenomenon, including: the special water, the isolation of the region and the genetic experiments of the Nazi doctor Josef Mengele, who would have passed through there in the 1960s. Residents say that he walked through these places claiming to be a veterinarian. And it was at this time that the first wave of twin births was recorded.

Incidentally, the task of the teachers in this place is not at all simple: the twin students they often cheat, answering one instead of the other in the classroom.

5. Vadoma Tribe / “Ostrich People”

This tribe that inhabits Zimbabwe lives with a genetic anomaly in their feet: the ectrodactyly🇧🇷 Due to the lack of 3 toes on the feet, some say that the people of the place have “ostrich feet”. Experts believe that the phenomenon originates in the ancient laws, which forbid marriages outside the tribe.

6. The Amish / Life in Another Time

The Amish are pacifist Protestants. Community founder Jacob Amman was in favor of limit contacts with the outside world. But Louis XIV began the persecution against the “non-Catholics”, and the Amish had to cross the ocean, going to the New World.

Now there are many Amish settlements in the United States (Ohio, Pennsylvania and other states), and also in Canada (Ontario). They don’t use guns, do not pay taxes and do not accept state aid. Their main occupations are agriculture and crafts.

The more traditional Amish abide by all the rules: they don’t drive cars, they plow the land, don’t use electricity, phone or computer. Instead of a refrigerator, they have ice chambers. On the other hand, the Amish of the new order do not reject the use of combine harvesters and cell phones.

Families usually have at least 5 children. All women wear hats, are prohibited from wearing makeup, get a haircut and wear jewelry. Men, once married, cannot shave.

The children study until the eighth grade, and at 15 years of age, the second period arrives. rumspring🇧🇷 Teenagers can break the rules and leave the settlement. They experiment with alcohol and cigarettes, as well as buy fashionable clothes. After that, 90% of the young people decide to stay in the community and be baptized.

There is currently a great deal of interest in this community. They even starred in one reality show which showed Amish youth in New York getting to know modern life. And Americans tired of fast food started visiting amish marketswhere they sell organic vegetables and fruits, jams, cakes and handicrafts.

7. “Free Artists” (Arden, USA)

In 1900, two friends, sculptor Frank Stevens and architect Will Price, rented land in Delaware and founded an art village. There, people could have a way of quiet life in the middle of naturean independent job and a single tax to pay: the land.

The idea of \u200b\u200blovers of freedom attracted painters, musicians and writers. And that’s how the “arts commune” began to develop, selling the works produced on site. Residents of Arden consider themselves followers of Georgism: each person owns only the product he has created, while natural assets belong to everyone.

The village became the home of joy. Tourists come to visit the fairs and festivals, shop for locals’ original creations and admire medieval British-style homes.

8. The village for caring for elderly people with dementia (Netherlands)

In the cozy “village” there are houses, shops, cafes and even a fountain on the square. Except that its residents are, in fact, patients at a humanitarian clinic for people suffering from senile dementia🇧🇷 According to estimates, in 2030, about 65 million people may have this diagnosis.

The people of Hogwey feel neither the burden of illness nor loneliness. In each apartment, between 5 and 6 people live, who are cared for by undercover employees salespeople, hairdressers and other workers.

Everything is organized so that the elderly do not leave the village. But you definitely won’t see doctors in white coats. “We have only one objective: to do what is possible so that our seniors live a normal life”.

In addition to sightseeing and shopping, Hogwey residents can cycle and participate in the hobbies of your interest: music, painting, gardening, cooking. There is also so-called occupational therapy: assistance with washing, cooking or caring for someone.

The apartments were designed following the style of the years when the patients’ short-term memory stopped working, following 70’s, 90’s patterns, among other decades. And thanks to the mobile kitchens that heat up the food, it even looks like it was freshly made.

As amazing as it is, the project also receives some criticism. But whoever thinks of people first, soon realizes that the residents love your community🇧🇷 They eat better, feel willing to to communicate and even need less medicine.

9. Bellavista Farm / “Paradise in the Trees”

The story of the “settlement treehouse” in Costa Rica is very interesting. On one occasion, newlyweds Erika and Matt Hogan bought 600 hectares of jungle, which was about to be cleared. build a house over the giant trees, and soon found other like-minded people who loved living in nature.

So, in 10 years, an ecological village was born near the Pacific Ocean. On site, solar panels are used and a carbon free electricity grid🇧🇷 There is also rainwater collection, vegetable and fruit cultivation, and biological treatment of waste. All new residents are instructed on the resources offered and rules of procedure.

According to Erika, the houses in the place are “unique as snowflakes”, with a magical landscape in front of the windows. Instead of public transportation, strings are used. Many treehouse owners rent out their homes. Visitors can rent a cozy room or even an entire house. There is also a dining room and WiFi.

And the human presence among the trees causes curiosity among representatives of the fauna. “The more people and noise, the more birds and animals appear around”.

Matt and Erika say, “When we created this place, we followed the call of our hearts, not investors. And our idea ‘primitive’ inspired other people like us”.
