8 Symptoms of liver disease that need medical evaluation

The liver is a very important organ, responsible for many functions in our body, and its failure can be fatal. Currently, an estimated 5.5 million Americans suffer from chronic liver disease or cirrhosis. In Brazil, about 30,000 people die each year due to organ diseases. Therefore, it is important to know the symptoms of liver problems to avoid something more serious.

O awesome.club shows you 8 symptoms of liver damage that should send you to the doctor right away.

1. You may notice that your skin and eyes turn yellow

If you have this symptom, it could be a sign of a condition known as jaundice. It is responsible for the yellow pigmentation of the skin, the whites of the eyes and mucous membranes. The yellow color appears because of excess bilirubin, which contains a yellowish-orange pigment found in liver bile.

When the liver is healthy, it easily breaks down bilirubin. But if it is seriously damaged, you literally turn yellow.

2. You feel low on energy and depressed

It’s not just ordinary tiredness, but something beyond that. Fatigue is characterized by a lack of mental and physical energy. You have no motivation to do anything. Sometimes a person feels lonely in the morning, and getting out of bed becomes real torture. Other times tiredness accompanies you throughout the day.

3. You may have abdominal swelling

4. You may experience poor appetite and weight loss

Usually, in such cases, doctors note that more than 10% of weight loss can be related to abdominal swelling. When a person is very swollen, he does not feel like eating because food causes abdominal pain.

5. You may notice angiomas on your skin

A spider angioma resembles a network of small dilated arterioles located very close to the surface of the skin. If they form in the upper half of the chest, hands, neck and face, this could be a sign of liver disease.

6. You can find bruises on your body

If your liver is damaged, protein production stops or slows down, causing blood clotting disorders. This is why a person with liver damage bleeds or bruises more easily than someone healthy.

7. Your urine may be dark in color

Its hue may vary, but in general, the color of your urine will appear darker than normal. It can be brown, dark orange or amber. It occurs due to excess bilirubin in the liver that cannot be broken down.

8. You may feel itchy

Of course, everyone can feel itchy from time to time. But when your liver is in trouble, you may experience more localized itching. It occurs due to toxins that the liver can no longer filter. When your body is very intoxicated, the itch becomes very intense, especially at night.
