7 Reasons Not to Throw Away Silica Gel Bags

Regardless of the purchase you make, it is very likely that you will find sachets of silica gel in the package. Most people just throw it in the trash without thinking twice, but what few people know is that this material can save us in many situations.

We, from awesome.club, we were very surprised when we discovered the different uses of silica gel. Check it out yourself too and be sure to see the tip we bring at the end of the post.

1. Help dry your electronics

Silica gel is very good at absorbing moisture and therefore can be useful for drying electronic devices such as a cell phone or an AirPod. Place the device in a Ziplock bag filled with silica gel, close the bag and leave undisturbed for the next 72 hours. This method allows the device to dry completely, minimizing water damage.

2. Can be used to defog the windshield

A foggy windshield is extremely annoying and can be the cause of road accidents. If your car’s air conditioning isn’t doing the job, just place a few bags of silica gel near the windshield. Your trip will be much more enjoyable.

3. Can be used to preserve food

Seeds, spices, herbs and even animal feed must be preserved in dry places. Just place a bag of silica gel in the container with the food to prevent mold and keep the products dry.

4. Help keep your objects fresh and clean

5. Prevent rust and corrosion

Moisture is one of the reasons that lead to corrosion. Packing silica gel bags with razor blades, screwdrivers, hammers, and even silverware is a great way to prevent rust and stains.

6. Can be used to dry flowers

You can preserve your flowers with silica gel. Fill a container with gel; then place the flowers and cover them with more gel. Close tightly, wait 2 to 6 days and check whether or not the drying process is complete. Then remove the silica gel and you’re done.

7. They help to eliminate unpleasant smells in the apartment

Silica gel can also eliminate or mask unpleasant smells. If you notice a strange smell under the sink, get a large bag of silica gel and place it there. You just need to change the gel from time to time.

Precautions

Silica gel is non-toxic and does not decompose within our bodies; however, you should never eat it. There is a high risk of suffocation. That’s why manufacturers insist that it must be kept away from children and pets.
Silica gel can get into headphones or other devices and clog them. So be careful and always use silica gel bags.
Do not heat silica gel as it loses its effectiveness and can destroy your stuff.

Bonus: Use a laundry bag to store your silica gel bags

What do you usually do with those gel sachets? Know other ways to use them? Tell in the comments.
