7 cleaning techniques that may be harming your furniture

Here are some tips for choosing the best brooms for your home:

1) Brooms with synthetic bristles: they are ideal for delicate floors, as they work like a “magnet” and suck all the dust to you. In addition, because they are light, they prevent the floor from being scratched, that is, they keep your floor exactly as it is. Perfect, isn’t it?

2 and 3) Brooms with stiff bristles: Resistant synthetic piassava bristles are perfect for heavy-duty cleaning, such as sweeping sidewalks and backyards, as their material is resistant to friction and very strong chemical products. However, we advise against using them indoors, as they can damage floors and coatings, especially laminate.

While bleach is good for heavy duty cleaning, ideally it should only be used in certain environments or when washing clothes. It is advisable to always read the instructions for the product, as if you use it in places other than the kitchen sink or on wooden floors, it may stain them. Always choose to research which types of products can be used or not, because we have several great options in the current market!

The versatility of vinegar is really indisputable, after all it is possible to use it to remove odors from some places and it can be used as a fabric softener, leaving clothes softer. However, using vinegar to clean stone, varnished porcelain, or wood can stain and shorten the life of these items. Therefore, the ideal is to choose a suitable product.

Brazilians love cleaning with plenty of water and full of products, however, not always using water in abundance is the most appropriate choice, given that it in excess can deteriorate some structures. In this sense, it is important to clean wooden furniture without water, using only a damp cloth and some specific product, as it can swell and damage the entire structure of the furniture — of course, this also works for hardwood floors.

Each product has a necessary action time, whether to clean or to disinfect the environment, so it is necessary to read all the instructions on the label and follow them properly, as not letting the cleaning products act at the correct time may not bring the expected result.

Mixing some cleaning products can be very dangerous for your health, because depending on the type of active ingredient each one has, the formation of some acid that is toxic to your health can make its use completely unfeasible. For example, two simple products like Vinegar + Sodium Bicarbonate form Sodium Acetate, which if stored in a closed environment, can form a toxic foam. So, there’s little care when using this much-loved mix!
