5 volunteers needed for an Antarctic expedition, and no traveler should pass up this opportunity

Traveling to Antarctica is a dream of many passionate travelers who dedicate their lives to traveling the world. Can you relate? Would you like to have the opportunity to visit the most remote place on the planet? If so, you need to know that this is now possible thanks to Airbnb and the Ocean Conservancy. Both brands will sponsor an expedition never seen before, the “Sabático na Antártida”, whose objective will be to study the impact of contamination in this region. Best of all, they are looking for 5 volunteers to join a scientific team to live an unforgettable adventure.

O awesome.club is fascinated by adventures, especially if they are related to caring for the environment. That’s why we want to tell you everything we’ve researched about this unique expedition that anyone can join.

Objectives of the “Antarctica Sabbatical”

The expedition is in charge of scientist Kirstie Jones-Williams. She leads the group of volunteers who will have the task of collecting snow samples from different points of the place, looking for the presence of microplastic in the place.

The main objective is to determine to what degree an inhospitable and remote region of the planet suffers the consequences of contamination. The search searches generate awareness about the impact that human activity has on the environment, since the situation is so critical that the invasion of plastic has even reached isolated places like Antarctica.

travel itinerary

Volunteers will learn basic concepts of glaciology, sampling, laboratory techniques and teamwork. Right after the training, they will fly to Antarctica and they will lodge in the interior of the continent, from where they will begin to work on the scientific mission.

An adventure with an important mission

Volunteers will not only collect snow samples, but will also visit the South Pole. The amazing thing about this experience is that you can go around the world just by walking a few steps. Along the route, you will be able to discover the wonderful landscapes from Charles Peak Wind Scoop, Drake Icefall and Elephant’s Head.

The search will continue

The search will not end there. Once the samples have been collected, the team will return to Chile, where will continue studying what was found. Volunteers will become ambassadors for protecting the oceans and, as such, will teach others around the world how to reduce the impact of plastic on the ecosystem.

How to apply to be a volunteer

Anyone who wants to live the adventure of a lifetime can register by filling out a form by October 8 on the airbnb, a company that accommodates and hosts travelers to all parts of the world. Applicants must meet a series of requirements and go through a selection process.
