Chromotherapy involves the use of color as a complementary and holistic treatment to help with psychological, physical and spiritual issues. Check out what chromotherapists Letícia Luchtenberg, from Terapias Luchtenberg, and Flaviano Postai said about the therapy:
What is chromotherapy?
Letícia explained that it is a healing therapy through colors. For Flaviano, it can be summarized as “a holistic therapy in which colors are used in order to balance the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual being”.
The holistic therapist also mentioned that “the technique harmonizes the electromagnetic field of the cells through the introduction of colors in the correction and prevention of dysfunctions”.
Both color therapists commented that the technique is ancient, with origins in Egyptian, Greek, Chinese and Indian civilizations. Letícia also recalled that “since 1976, chromotherapy has been recognized by the WHO (World Health Organization) as a complementary therapy”.
5 benefits of chromotherapy to encourage you to know the technique
Chromotherapists brought more details about the benefits of therapy. Meet five of them:
- Improved sleep quality: Both therapists talked about the benefit. Flaviano explained that “very positive results are observed in cases of patients with insomnia, who sleep better”.
- Relief from stress and anxiety: Letícia commented that “colors with calming properties help to reduce levels of stress and anxiety”.
- Aid in the treatment of migraine: “chromotherapy has been accepted by the WHO as a complementary therapy in the treatment of migraine since 1976”, quoted Letícia.
- Activation of blood circulation: “warm colors help the heart function properly and stimulate blood circulation”, explained Flaviano.

How is chromotherapy performed?
Flaviano started talking about the chakras. “It is important to highlight that colors have a direct relationship with our centers of strength or energy – called chakras. There are 7 main chakras in the human body, each of which vibrates at a frequency associated with a color”, he added.
He went on to say that “each chakra is responsible for a set of functions or attributions in the organism. Therefore, each color has an application, an action in the organism. Thus, the use of colors in the respective chakras promotes their balance, reaching all associated organs and systems”.
Letícia added, citing how the technique works. “Various forms of application are used, according to the therapist’s assessment and in the specific locations of the chakras. Colored lamps, chromatic sticks, colored stones/crystals, colored mentalization, are some examples”.
The therapist also talked about supporting techniques that help the continuity of the chromotherapy treatment. “They are: solarized water, colorful food, colors in the environment and the use of colorful clothes”.
The two color therapists ended the explanation by emphasizing the importance of looking for a qualified professional. They also mentioned the duration of therapy: on average, it lasts from 40 minutes to 1 hour, with values between R$ 70 and R$ 150.
Meaning of colors in chromotherapy
Flaviano and Letícia briefly commented on how each color is used. In this case, the seven colors of the solar spectrum are worked.
- Green: related to hope, vitality and health. In chromotherapy it is used to soothe and comfort.
- Red: represents power, energy and excitement. This color needs to be used with caution, too much can lead to stress. It helps in vitality, blood circulation and the functioning of the heart.
- Blue: linked to serenity and harmony. It is widely used to help calm, especially in the treatment of insomnia, anxiety and stress.
- Yellow: prosperity, joy, creativity and optimism is what the color represents. It is used to improve interpersonal relationships, stimulate creativity and improve mood.
- Orange: related to communication, joy and enthusiasm. It helps in the treatment of depression or when there is difficulty in expressing and communicating what you feel.
- Violet: linked to mystery and spirituality. Her function is to calm down, reduce anguish, anxiety and fears.
- Indigo Blue/Indigo: the color represents intuition, relaxation and tranquility. In chromotherapy, it is used to stimulate intuition and to calm. Very common in anxiety and stress treatments.
Flaviano recalled that, during the session, “the exclusive use of chromotherapy or in conjunction with other therapies is at the discretion of the therapist. For example, it is possible to combine the technique with auriculotherapy, crystal therapy, aromatherapy, reiki and acupuncture”. Read on to learn about practice care.
Precautions to take with chromotherapy and make the most of the technique
Letícia pointed out that the colors can “have undesirable effects when used incorrectly or in excess, therefore, it is necessary to undergo therapy with a qualified professional”.
Flaviano commented on the importance of researching the technique. “Look for a duly qualified professional (with courses and/or certificates), accredited by a professional body or entity that gives him/her the chance for such practices”, he recommended.
Finally, the holistic therapist left a tip. “Schedule a first session and talk about chromotherapy. Ask about the results achieved and the benefits obtained in other patients before ‘launching’ this treatment”, he concluded.
As you can see, chromotherapy is a complementary therapy that can be combined with other traditional medicine techniques. However, you need to look for a qualified professional, trust the procedure and, above all, trust your cure. Now, how about taking a look at the article about access bars?
