3 diets that help people live to 100

How many years would you like to live? Eighty? Ninety? One hundred years? If your longevity plans are bold, you probably know that you need to follow some recommendations to stay healthy.

Maintaining a physical exercise routine, staying away from cigarettes, avoiding the consumption of alcoholic beverages and having a healthy diet are some of the habits that we should practice to increase our expectation.

It can even be very interesting to pay attention to the habits of some populations that tend to live longer than average and bring some of them into our lives.

That’s why it’s worth getting to know the diet of three communities with a high percentage of inhabitants who easily age, full of health to give and sell. Find out which foods they eat the most and add them to their plate today!

1. Dandelion and Chickpeas

On a remote island in Greece called Ikaria, 97% of its residents are over 70 – and rarely do any of them show signs of dementia. There, a very common food is dandelion leaves, which is consumed cooked like spinach. This food has 10 times more antioxidants than wine and is rich in prebiotics.

In addition to dandelions, the Greeks on the island of Ikaria are also fans of chickpeas, a very versatile cereal that can be consumed in the form of salads, soups or replacing rice and beans from time to time.

2. Rice, beans and tortilla

Any nutritionist would say that consuming rice, beans and tortillas is not a good idea for those trying to lose weight, but it seems that this combination contributes greatly to the longevity of residents of Costa Rica’s Nicoya Peninsula.

There, one in 250 people are over 100 years old, while only one in 4,000 reaches that mark in the United States – where living conditions would supposedly be better.

3. The Garden of Eden Diet

An hour from Los Angeles, California, is the town of Loma Linda, where nearly half of its residents belong to the Seventh-day Adventist Church. There, most church members don’t eat meat or fish, and they stay away from cigarettes and alcohol. And that seems to be worth it, as they tend to live 10 years longer than the rest of the country’s population.

In Loma Linda, having a healthy diet is part of the precepts of religion, and the menu consumed by its residents is inspired by the biblical Garden of Eden. Thus, their diet basically consists of beans, nuts, oatmeal, whole-wheat bread, and soy milk.

Loma Linda residents also aim to drink six to eight glasses of water a day, as recommended by one of the religion’s founders, Ellen G. White, more than 150 years ago. In addition, they are always on the move and often go for walks.

Of course, genetics also counts a lot for the life expectancy of a population, but, as you can see, it’s not that difficult to incorporate some of these foods that promise life linga to your plate, is it?
