1. Apples belong to the rose family

Surprisingly, not only apples, but many other fruits are close relatives of roses: they all belong to the family Rosaceae. Pears, plums and apricots are other examples.

Most of us believe that almonds are a kind of nut, but technically, they are hard-shelled fruits that come from the almond tree. This makes them closer to peaches, cherries, plums and nectarines.
