20 Characteristics of Childhood in the Past That Are Virtually Unknown to Kids Today

In the past, before the Internet and modern smartphones, there was not such a wide variety of toys as there is today. And that’s why children invented all kinds of entertainment to pass the time. For example, even a simple walk on the sidewalk could become a fun game for children who decided not to step on the cracks and joints between the concrete slabs. In the old days, we would lick the yogurt lid and then fold it before throwing it in the trash.

If we walked near a railing, then we used to drag our hands across it.

When boredom hit, it was common to chew on the end of the sweatshirt’s zipper.

Whenever a cat yawned, we tried to put a finger in its mouth.

When we had to cross the street, we only stepped on the white lanes of the crosswalk.

We made “cookies” with practically any filling

We loved blowing dandelions and some even made wishes

We would pick up a fallen leaf and leave only its “skeleton”

During long calls with friends, we scribbled on paper

And during the readings, we folded the edge of the page so we wouldn’t get lost.
