15+ Movies and Series That Had Siblings in the Cast and Fans Might Not Have Noticed

Many artistic families have one or more members who end up being successful in films, series and soap operas. However, because one of them is usually more famous than the other, we end up not even realizing that they are actually linked by blood ties. Some pairs even end up playing characters who were brothers, bringing real-life stories to fiction.

1. Charlie Sheen and Emilio Estevez

The brothers Charlie Sheen and Emilio Estevez were very successful on the small screen and the list of films that have this duo is long. However, we highlight: Trabalho Sujo, in which they play the role of two street cleaners who believe they are involved in a crime. In the film Almost Lethal Weapon, the protagonists are Emilio Estevez and Samuel L. Jackson, a film that makes fun of the action film Lethal Weapon, and Charlie acted as a valet.

2. Luke and Chris Hemsworth

Due to the similarity between the Hemsworth brothers, they ended up playing the same character in the 2017 film Thor: Ragnarok. For a brief moment in the plot, Luke assumed the character of the Norse god with his blonde locks and red cape. Experts even consider that Luke’s participation will also happen in the next films about Thor.

3. Haylie and Hilary Duff

In Material Girls, the celebrities played two heir sisters of a cosmetics tycoon, and the story tells how their lives take a turn. The duo loses all inheritance and luxury life, and ends up having to live with an ex-employee. That movie was written to have been played by twins Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen.

4. Eric and Julia Roberts

In this western film, Eric Roberts was one of the protagonists and Julia was a supporting character who almost does not appear in the plot. The story tells the saga of some farmers to defend their land against businessmen who want to destroy houses to build railroads. This feature was listed by the Rolling Stones website as one of the least accepted films by the actress by the public and by specialized critics, using the IMDb note (3.8/10) as a reference — although it is possible that many fans find it precious.

5. Andrew, Owen and Luke Wilson

The three brothers worked together in some films, we highlight: Pure Adrenalina, Anthony (Luke) is a boy who leaves a psychiatric hospital and looks for his friend Dignan (Owen), who is involved in a crime. Andrew is a supporting actor and Owen was one of the screenwriters for the plot. This was Wes Anderson’s first film as a director and he won the MTV Movie Awards for Best New Filmmaker.

In the plot The Royal Tenenbaums, Owen was a screenwriter and supporting actor, Luke was Richie Tenenbaum and Andrew is Tex, the son of a farmer. A curiosity is that screenwriter Wes Anderson wrote the role of the patriarch for Gene Hackman, but the actor only agreed to play the character after asking the family’s opinion; before that he even considered rejecting the invitation.

6. Charlie and Eddie Murphy

In the plot Os Donos da Noite, Eddie was director, screenwriter and main actor; in the story he is the adopted son of a nightclub owner and Charlie Murphy was a supporting actor. A curiosity is that Eddie’s directorial work was not so well received by critics and he was nominated for Worst Director at the Golden Raspberry and the film ended up winning the aforementioned “award” for Worst Screenplay. However, many fans love him and even today it is possible to have a good laugh with the plot.

In the film Norbit, Eddie Murphy played three characters: Norbit Albert Rice, Rasputia Latimore and Mr. Hangten Wong. In the plot, Charlie Murphy voiced Lloyd, the pet pug dog owned by Mrs. Coleman as a tutor; the animal is one of Norbit’s friends, who he usually vents to. The film was a box office success and earned nearly $160 million.

7. Elle and Dakota Fanning

This was one of the movies that Dakota and Elle Fanning made together; in the plot, the youngest was the main actress when she was only 2 years old and the oldest played the same character years later. Therefore, the sisters did not specifically act together. This was one of Elle’s first jobs, while Dakota was already emerging as a promise of success. In that film, Sean Penn visited a treatment center for the mentally ill as a way to prepare for the role.

8. Jake and Maggie Gyllenhaal

In Donnie Darko, Jake and Maggie act as brothers and Richard Kelly, director of the film, told in an interview how he thought of the two to be the protagonists. He chose Jake first, along with the casting director, and evaluated Maggie’s experience in the theater, to choose her to play one of the most important roles of her career. The two also made the films together: A Dangerous Woman and Three Doubtful Partners, and in both the Gyllenhaal brothers’ father, Stephen, was a director and screenwriter.

9. Chad and Rob Lowe

In the film An Adventure in Oxford, Rob Lowe is the protagonist, the character Nick De Angelo, who falls in love with an English girl and does everything to conquer her. Chad did an uncredited cameo as a computer hacker. Rob would have offered the role of Lady Victoria to Princess Stephanie of Monaco, they even sent a proposal that was never answered.

Sisters Taissa and Vera Farmiga made two films together; in Em Busca da Fé, the two interpreted different phases of the same character, and this was only possible due to the great difference in age of the two actresses. In the romantic comedy Um Novo Amor, they are mother and daughter who seek to achieve their life dreams. In that film, Vera misses a line in the plot: “She is trying to consolidate her pain in 40 characters, so that she can tweet her sadness”, and at the time Twitter accepted up to 140 characters.

Brothers Matt, Joey and Andrew Lawrence made the comedy Brotherly Love that was shown in the mid-90s. It tells about the life of Joey who lost his father and is forced to take care of his brothers and a bankrupt workshop. A curiosity is that the characters have the same names as the actors of the Lawrence family: Joey (Joseph), Matt (Matthew) and Andy (Andrew). The trio also worked together on the Modern Pirates movie and Melissa & Joey series.

The brothers Alec, Stephen, William, Jane and Daniel Baldwin were present in the documentary that tells the story of Daniel and the promise made to his friend Patrick Michael Raynor Jr. Despite the pair of companions not being able to fulfill what was agreed, due to the death of PJ, Daniel decided to improve his physical capacity to complete part of the promise. The brothers and actors teamed up to play pals Tommy Wiseau and Greg Sestero in The Disaster Artist. In history, the duo travels to Hollywood in order to achieve their personal and professional goals. Few knew, but the name of the singer Britney Spears was considered by James to play the role of Juliette, but later it was offered to Ari Graynor.

15. Abigail and Spencer Breslin

The child actor duo has appeared in a few films together; in A Gift for Helen, they are the brothers Henry and Sarah who are orphaned and end up having to live with their aunt Helen Harris in New York. The duo also worked on My Santa Claus 3, The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement and Two Sisters. The filming locations for A Gift for Helen were in New York, Queens, and the location was also the setting for the films Drawn by Fate and Spider-Man.

16. Bill and Brian Doyle-Murray

The talented brothers have been cast in the same film several times, in Groundhog Day, Bill is a reporter/protagonist in the film and Brian has a supporting role as presenter. Screenwriter Danny Rubin said in an interview that he wrote the plot in less than a week and that he was inspired by a book about vampires. The two also appeared in Os Fantasmas Contra-Atacam, Os Caça-Fantasmas 2, Clube dos Pilantras and O Fio da Navalha.
