Of course the initial idea was to hate them. But they won our hearts in such a way that we ended up rooting for them to do well in the end. Understanding each one’s story or simply because, in the end, they weren’t that bad, these villains became the most beloved on screens and their angry faces don’t even scare us anymore.

1. Maleficent

Walter White is a chemistry professor who feels underappreciated, earns poorly and even discovers on his 50th birthday that he has lung cancer. Trying to find a way out to not bankrupt the family with the costs of treatment, he uses his expertise to produce the best methamphetamine ever. In this way, Walter became the biggest drug dealer in New Mexico and won our hearts forever.

Dexter is a Florida crime expert who has a seemingly normal life, but there’s only one small detail: he’s a serial killer🇧🇷 This character has a differential: Dexter kills the murderers of innocent people that the police were unable to arrest. He learned from his father that he should direct his impulse to kill towards those who somehow “deserve to die”.

A classic character starring Al Pacino that shows that despite being a heartless man to some, blood ties matter to Italy’s best-known mobster. 6. Eustacio (Courage the Cowardly Dog🇧🇷

Eustace is a minor character who complains and is in a bad mood all the time. There are very few moments when we see him happy or smiling. His routine is based on staying in his armchair watching TV or reading the newspaper in his city, which is called “Nowhere”. He was badly treated as a child by his mother, who always called him “Idiot Boy”, so he ends up repeating the catchphrase: “Idiot Dog” to poor Courage.

7. Norman (Bates Motel🇧🇷

Another character that captivated us due to the psychological problems that were caused by childhood abuse. Norman Bates is apparently a sweet and shy boy who lives with his domineering mother named Norma. The series, based on the horror classic Psychosisshows the evolution of this cruel killer, possibly due to the traumas suffered with the unhealthy maternal relationship.

The character Joker, played by Heath Ledger, was an insane villain who ended up causing viewers to laugh a lot. To experience what was going on in the character’s head, the actor was isolated for 43 days inside a hotel making a laboratory. He didn’t give any other: the interpretation gave Ledger a lot of success and the protagonist became as popular as the character.

9. Abby (Let me in🇧🇷

Abby is a girl who moves to a town and meets a boy named Owen. They become friends and she slowly reveals her secret to him. Abby is a sweet and lonely girl who became a vampire, but she does everything she can to not hurt her friend, as much as she wants to feed. The film is a way to leave you mesmerized by the innocence and sweetness of the friendship between the two children.

10. Darth Vader (Star Wars🇧🇷

One of the most well-known villains in the world of cinema, could not be left out of this list. This villain’s popularity begins when it is revealed that before he was evil, he was a devoted son who lost his mother and blames himself for letting her die. At one point he gives in to the dark side of the force, fearing for the life of his beloved Padmé, a fall that lasted 4 films in the franchise until he finally redeemed himself.

11. Loki (Thor🇧🇷

Our favorite Asgardian had his motivations: he was bad at plot because of the influence the scepter given him by Thanos had on his mind. The film’s producers reinforced the idea that the villain must have a story, to justify his evil side and, thus, the audience will not only accept him, but also love him. For many, he is the star of the film and was so successful that he seems to have conquered a series of his own in the future.

12. Ozymandias (watchmen🇧🇷

the movie heroes watchmen have a profile that makes this group one of the most humanized, as they have defects and contradictions that we almost don’t see in idealized heroes. In the plot, Ozymandias reveals to the public his reasons and ends the threat of a nuclear war between the US and the USSR, saving the human species from extinction. Is this a good reason to put it on this list or not?

13. Mystique (X-Men🇧🇷

In the movie X-Men: First Class, the villain of other films in the franchise ends up no longer being an enemy and becomes an important ally of the good mutants. The film shows that she became evil because of the mistreatment she suffered during her life and that, because of that, she came to the conclusion that all humanity was her mortal enemy. That is, once again justified anger, humanizing evil.

16. Dr. Casa, Lar

Dr. Gregory House is a famous New Jersey doctor who always gets the diagnosis right. However, his most striking features are his bad mood, his antisocial, sarcastic and narcissistic way. Many attribute his grumpiness to the consequences of an unsuccessful operation on his right leg, which causes him severe and constant pain.

17. Negan (The Walking Dead🇧🇷

The leader of the group of Saviors, in the series The Walking Dead, is a guy who manages to cause in fans a mixture of love and hate. His sarcastic wit and unfriendly methods hide a difficult past he prefers not to remember. Post-apocalypse life has made the devoted professor married to the beautiful Lucille a harsh, cruel man with traces of psychopathy.

18. Jack Sparrow (Pirates of the Caribbean🇧🇷

Sparrow lives by trickery, deceit and uses his above average intelligence to get what he wants. He is an anti-hero much loved by fans, who shows that he is capable of anything to achieve his goals, but still has a very good heart. The film suggests that he lives by cheating, much more out of the necessities of life than by a thoughtful choice, as with most traditional villains.

19. Travis Bickle (Taxi Driver🇧🇷

Travis is a lonely man who is disappointed in life and people, and because of that, he does what he does. He captivates the audience despite using a morally ambiguous way to get what he wants. What conquers fans is his quest to change the world, through what he deems right and relevant. An enigmatic character that the viewer learns to love over the course of the plot.
