15 mistakes that can ruin looks for corporate parties

No matter how universal the stylists’ recommendations are; sometimes, of course, there are exceptions. This is due to the fact that some companies choose a different theme for the parties and, consequently, a corresponding dress code or a specific location for the occasion. But don’t forget, a corporate event is a party with colleagues, and there are some rules that must be respected, as it is a moment that makes an impression not only on the behavior of colleagues, but also on their taste and appearance.

O awesome.club prepared a list of pieces that, according to stylists, it is better to avoid when choosing costumes for the next festive event.

1. Maxi length formal dress

A dress that is too formal and (or) long is not the best choice for a corporate party, unless you are a star on the red carpet of a movie award ceremony. Also, do not forget that the program of an event between colleagues often involves dances, which, in most cases, are not ballroom dances. A long dress is not entirely comfortable and appropriate for something like this.

There are many options for mini and midi length dresses, which can also look stunning and incredibly stylish.

2. Full Black

Going to the extreme and choosing all the image details in black is not the best idea. Even if colleagues are not particularly interested in fashion and style, a “woman in black” is unlikely to make a favorable impression. All of the above also apply to costumes entirely in one color, be they blue, red, yellow or any other type: when creating your party look, it is preferable to avoid choosing and using only one color.

Classic is, of course, an option that cannot fail, but it also needs to be framed, so it is better to dilute the image with color accents or contrast, the role of which can be played by accessories or shoes.

3. Low quality fabrics

Cheap glitter doesn’t look good on anyone. This applies not only to dresses, but also to poor-quality satin blouses and tops, which are sometimes worn at corporate events, giving, as an argument, that this option makes the look more solemn.

A corporate event remains a day of celebration and, as such, is another reason to wear a new outfit and, most importantly, one of dignified quality. There are many options for this. And if what you want is to stand out, the brightness of cheap fabrics can be replaced by the nobility of thicker fabrics, such as velvet.

4. Very tight dress

A dress “tight” to the body can treacherously mark not only what you want to emphasize, but also what you want to hide, especially in the abdominal area after a hearty dinner. In addition, with such a dress, your colleagues can easily determine what kind of underwear, and even tights, you are wearing. For some, it can be a really fun conversation topic.

There are many types of dresses that emphasize the silhouette, but if you still want to wear a tight-fitting dress, then you should pay attention to the texture and density of the fabric. It is what determines how suitable the selected part will be.

5. Printed tights

As for tights, testing out new designs is the last thing you should do. Even if you think your legs are the most beautiful part of your body, it’s not good to draw all the attention to them, even less with the help of this kind of “special effects”. The same applies if they are made of lycra. Incidentally, that’s what you see so treacherously ridiculous in photographs, that not only you will see it, but your colleagues too.

An ordinary pantyhose in a single color, chosen according to the season, is perfectly capable of showing off the beauty of your shapely legs.

6. Abundance of fur and feathers

This type of accessory, interesting and enigmatic, should be postponed for costume parties, with the corresponding dress code. “Dear-rich” is not the style that will impress your colleagues and bosses, in the good sense of the word. In addition, your fur accessory, along with your state of mind, can be irretrievably ruined if, for example, the fish that a colleague was trying to transport to your plate accidentally falls into your mink stole.

If you want to wear fur and feathers, a good option can be small and not too extravagant accessories, such as earrings or clutches.

7. Animal print

Nobody canceled the freedom to manifest their own individuality and sensuality. However, so far, at a corporate event, a little modesty has not harmed anyone. Stylists believe that animal prints – animal print – make the look look cheaper, so it is not recommended to appear in front of your colleagues in such an outfit. In addition, according to some fashion experts, those who wear clothes with a leopard print visually look several years older.

You will achieve better predisposition and sympathy from others by choosing neutral and calm textures and patterns, rather than challenging with your deliberately sexual appearance.

8. Exaggerated props and bright details

An intricately patterned asymmetrical skirt, a frilly blouse, fancy shoes, lots of rings and bracelets, chunky earrings, a huge necklace: it’s clearly overkill for any kind of look. And if everything above sparkles and blinks, then an association with a Christmas tree, at best, is inevitable.

When the details are too many, the look becomes unbalanced and, for some, it can become not only incomprehensible, but also unpleasant. You always have to struggle to keep your balance. For example, when it comes to jewelry, it is better to choose only one thing: long earrings or a large necklace, but not all together.

9. Inappropriate shoes

Stylists unanimously say that it is better to choose shoes or ballet flats for a corporate party, and that boots are simply incompatible with evening dresses. Here, it’s better to start from the look itself: booties and a cocktail dress don’t make the most suitable combination, but, for example, if worn with a miniskirt, it’s still trendy.

The important thing is that the miniskirt is not too short. Appearing before your peers as the character of Julia Roberts at the beginning of the movie “Pretty Woman” is a dubious prospect.

10. Shelters and sportswear

Sports and pajama-style clothing, of course, can be comfortable and comfortable. It’s really nice to wear baggy pants, jackets and soft t-shirts. But no matter how stylish you look, corporate parties and shelters are incompatible unless, again, it’s a specific party with a definite theme. The same applies to sportswear.

An excellent alternative can be a stylish overalls. Not only will it show a lot of style, but it will also make you stand out (in a good way) among your peers.

11. “Naked” lace dress

Excessively “frank” outfits, showing too much, are not the best idea for a corporate party. Of course, a translucent dress or a pronounced neckline will not fail to attract attention, but this image is more suitable for a party in a circle of friends than colleagues. In the latter, there must be certain boundaries, no matter how open a person is.

A good alternative can be the same lace dress, skirt or blouse, but with a lining, or an outfit with small lace inserts, which will not make your look any less attractive.

12. Children’s accessories

Do not go to a corporate party full of adults, who are celebrating in the circle of colleagues, with a plastic wreath or a toy magic wand. In any case, it would be logical to create a complete image with the corresponding theme, but there is still a risk that you will look like a children’s party entertainer.

Nowadays, more and more often (in companies too) special photographic areas are set up where there are mustaches, crowns, fake hats and all kinds of costumes. It’s there where, for a while, you can go back to your childhood with your dear colleagues and have real fun posing for the photographer.

13. Summer dresses

If the corporate party takes place in winter, it is better to give up sundresses, especially if they are made of fabrics such as chiffon. This type of outfit, which should be paired with open sandals and bare feet, will look out of place at a party, and with closed-toe shoes (or, even worse, boots), or even tights, the ridiculous look will be guaranteed. .

It is better to give preference to cocktail dresses, which, regardless of the season, give their owners lightness and youthfulness.

14. Uncomfortable clothes

When clothes take on a life of their own, the bra strap pops out, the bodice slides down, the dress zipper keeps unraveling, or the skirt rotates “around the axis,” the moment becomes quite unpleasant. It is better to think over the outfit for company parties in advance, since, as already mentioned, this type of event often includes dynamics, dances and other entertainment.

Clothing should not only be comfortable, but also coherent and suitable for your body type and occasion. This way, you’ll have more opportunities to remember the party itself, not your regrets for a poorly chosen look.

15. “Office” style

Some employees perceive a corporate party quite literally, as an event held between colleagues, and come to the collective celebration in their everyday work look. In this case, there is a high probability of not being “like the others”, something that sounds like an ambitious dream, but which, in this context, will not be beneficial.

If you don’t want to get away from the work look, it is possible to choose elegant and laconic sets, but with interesting touches that, again, can be accessories, textures or an unusual fabric.
