Geologists accidentally found a cave with huge reserves of natural gas, which was intentionally burned to avoid harmful effects to people and livestock. But the fire that was supposed to go out after a few days has been burning for 45 years. It is a unique and fascinating spectacle.

The Lençóis Maranhenses National Park, on the coast of Maranhão, is one of these wonders. During the rainy season, it is simply unforgettable. Every year during this period, thousands of turquoise water lagoons and different sea creatures form between the sand dunes. It remains a mystery how fish and crabs get there after the drought, but the scale of a spectacle of this magnitude is surprising. The best time to visit is from July to September, when the pools are at their maximum volume.

Eight centuries ago, on a rocky mountain in southern Spain, there is a town called Setenil de las Bodegas, also known as “The city in the rock”. The walls, and even the roofs of the houses, are part of the huge basalt stones and protect the inhabitants from the scorching sun and wind.
