15 Gems worn by Princess Diana and where they are now

Diana, Princess of Wales, was one of the most important women in the United Kingdom. Known as Lady Di, she was the first wife of Prince Charles, heir to the British throne. After the royal wedding, Diana became one of the most famous women in the world not only because she was part of the British royal family, but also for all her humanitarian work and, of course, her incomparable beauty. But one of the aspects that always drew a lot of attention to the princess was her jewelry collection.

O awesome.club researched the history behind some of the accessories used by Lady Di and discovered what was the fate given to these objects after her passing.

1. Diana’s engagement ring

For her engagement to Prince Charles, Princess Diana chose a ring made from a blue Ceylon sapphire set with 14 white diamonds from the jewelery trusted by the royal family. The design was inspired by the wedding gift that Queen Victoria received in 1840. Currently, this beautiful jewel is with the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, who received it from her husband, Prince William, as an engagement ring in 2010.

2. Sapphire earrings

Princess Diana received from Prince Fahd of Saudi Arabia as a wedding gift a set of sapphire jewelry that included earrings in the shape of diamond drops whose design matched her engagement ring. They were seen on the princess’ body at various events in the 1980s and 1990s. Currently, it is another gem inherited by Kate Middleton through Prince William. Kate was seen with them on a visit who made Dundee in 2019.

3. Butterfly-shaped earrings

During a visit to Canada in the mid-1980s, Princess Diana appeared wearing a set of gold and diamond butterfly earrings. Although they weren’t flashy, they didn’t escape the clinical eyes of the photographers.

More than 30 years later, the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, paid tribute to the princess and wore the earrings, kept until then by Prince Harry. They were seen during Meghan’s first royal trip to Australia.

4. Four-row Japanese pearl choker

Apparently, this jewel also stayed with Kate Middleton. Proof of this is a photo in which she appears wearing the choker for the King and Queen’s 70th wedding anniversary.

5. Prince of Wales feather brooch

This brooch, set atop an oval diamond jewel and decorated with emeralds, is a three-feather insignia representing the Prince of Wales and includes the motto “I serve”. In 1981, Diana received it as a wedding gift from the Queen Mother and added it to a necklace she had received from the Prince of Saudi Arabia.

The accessory was recently seen as a brooch. It was worn by Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, second wife of Prince Charles.

6. Diamond Earrings with Pearls from the South Seas

Princess Diana wore this accessory a few times during the 1990s. The earrings are inlaid with diamonds from which two giant white pearls hang, which have changed over the years.

The earring set also passed into the hands of Prince William, who gave it as a gift to his wife, the Duchess of Cambridge. In 2019, Kate Middleton wore the earrings during the BAFTA award ceremony, the British Oscar.

7. Ring of aquamarine

This ring was worn by Lady Di after the breakup of her relationship with Prince Charles at an auction and during a visit to Australia, both in 1997. It contains blue emerald with small diamonds and 24 carat gold.

A spokesperson for Kensington Palace said the jewel, which was with Prince Harry, was given to his wife, Meghan Markle, as a wedding gift. The Duchess of Sussex wore the ring on her wedding day.

8. Spencer Tiara

The tiara returned to the Spencer family and was used more than once, always at weddings. Jane Spencer, Victoria Lockwood (who married Charles Spencer) and more recently Celia McCorquodale, Lady Di’s niece, have all worn this lovely family gem.

9. Nigel Milne bracelet with pearls and diamonds

The bracelet, with its three rows of pearls and a diamond brooch, was designed as part of a charitable collection by Nigel Milne. It was worn by Princess Diana in combination with other classic accessories, including the “Elvis” dress by designer Catherine Walker.

Photographers are always on the lookout for the royal family’s activities, and in 2017, they photographed Kate Middleton wearing the bracelet during an official visit to Berlin, Germany.

10. Gold bracelet with two stones

This golden accessory with two gemstones has been seen on Lady Di’s wrist on a few occasions. One of the times was in 1990, during the princess’s visit to an asylum. Today, the bracelet is part of the Dukes of Sussex collection. In 2018, during her first royal visit to Australia, Meghan Markle took the jewel with her.

11. Choker art deco of Queen Mary of Teck

In 1921, Garrard jewelry made a diamond and emerald choker for Queen Mary of Teck. In 1953, it became part of the collection of Queen Elizabeth II, who decided to give it to Princess Diana in 1981 as a wedding gift.

A curious fact is that the princess gave an alternative use to the choker and also used it as a kind of tiara. Apparently, after Lady Di’s passing, the choker returned to the Queen’s collection.

12. Tiara Lover’s Knot

13. Pearl earrings collingwood

Diana received these pearl drop earrings and diamonds from Prince Charles as a wedding gift. They are from the Collingwood family jewelry store and were worn by the princess at formal and informal events.

The Duchess of Cambridge was responsible for wearing the accessory in the 21st century. Kate Middleton has already worn the pair of earrings at some events.

14. Sapphire choker and seven strands of pearls

Another wedding gift that Lady Di received from the Queen Mother was a sapphire brooch with diamonds, which she redesigned and made into a choker with seven strands of pearls.

The beautiful accessory was seen in 1985, in the United States, and in 1994, when she wore the “revenge dress”. Though never worn again, the choker is said to have been given to Princes William and Harry.

15. Meghan Markle’s engagement ring

Like the Duchess of Cambridge, the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, also carries a part of Princess Diana in her hand. We’re talking about the ring Prince Harry gave her when they got engaged. According to Lady Di’s own son, the accessory was made with a yellow gold ring, a Botswana gemstone and two diamonds from his mother’s collection (the exact pieces were not revealed).

Bonus: Lady Di’s inheritance for her children

As you may have noticed, many of the jewelry worn by Princess Diana is now worn by Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton, wives of Lady Di’s children. According to unofficial information, the princess added a letter to her will in which she explained her wish to have her collection given to Princes Harry and William, for their future wives to use. In this sense, the photos presented seem to be the fulfillment of this desire.
