15 Best Films of All Time

The variety and quantity of films released by the film industry each year makes it difficult for us to choose something to watch. Fortunately, there are reliable resources that publish rankings based on ratings from viewers and critics, and one of them is the world-renowned website Rotten Tomatoes.

We, from awesome.club, we decided to present to our readers the 15 best films in the history of cinema according to the Rotten Tomatoes ranking, and we are sure that these cinematographic works are worth seeing.

15. Run! (2017)

The psychological horror film narrates the meeting of the young man in love, Chris, with his girlfriend Rose’s family. It seemed that nothing was going to go wrong, however, in the course of the plot, strange and disturbing things begin to happen.

The film was nominated for Oscars in four categories and won Best Screenplay. Filming for the film lasted 23 days.

14.BlacKkKlansman (2018)

The film’s screenplay is based on the book of the same name by Ron Stallworth. The events of Black Klansman take place in 1978. A police officer, Ron, along with his partner Flip, infiltrates the Ku Klux Klan to try to sabotage the sect’s plans.

In 2019 the film won many awards, including an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay and the Grand Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival, where it was given a six-minute standing ovation after screening.

13. Mission: Impossible – Fallout Effect (2018)

This is the sixth part of the franchise about secret agents. The protagonist, Ethan Hunt, played by Tom Cruise, needs to discover the enemies’ intentions and save the world from a catastrophic explosion.

In 2019 the film received the Saturn Award for Best Action or Adventure Film. By the way, Tom Cruise prepared rigorously for filming and performed his stunts without the help of stuntmen.

12. Lady Bird: Time to Fly (2017)

The drama brings strong emotions and tells the story of a 17-year-old girl who is in search of her individuality and demands to be called Lady Bird. She is in the last year of high school, and faces all the difficulties of passing into adult life.

The film won two Golden Globes: Best Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy and Best Actress, Musical or Comedy. Initially the script contained 350 pages, which is equivalent to five hours of exhibition, being rewritten several times.

11. Toy Story 4 (2019)

Toy Story 4 is the final installment in the great franchise about toys brought to life. Its owner, Andy, after the end of childhood, passes toys to the little girl Bonnie. Bonnie’s favorite doll is Forky, which she made herself from a fork. Only, for now, Forky does not understand how to behave with his owner and runs away from home.

In 2020 Toy Story 4 took the Oscar for Best Animated Film, and also won the Saturn Award.

10. Us (2019)

Upon arriving in a beach town to spend a weekend, a simple family is faced with an inexplicable phenomenon: each of the family finds their own, unfriendly double. It will be difficult for viewers to guess the development of the plot.

Filming lasted two months, but the new horror under the direction of Jordan Peele became the highest-grossing horror film in cinema history (it grossed over 70 million dollars in its first weekend). Jordan Peele, who can be called the master of modern horror, received the Saturn Award for Best Director.

9. Between Knives and Secrets (2019)

The cast of the film includes the participation of Daniel Craig, Chris Evans, Ana de Armas and Jamie Lee Curtis. According to the plot, to investigate the case of the death of a famous writer, a private detective is hired, and upon arriving at the scene of the alleged crime, he discovers that the deceased’s family keeps many secrets. In attempts to unravel the mysterious case, viewers end up doubting their own versions.

The film received good reviews and was nominated for a Saturn Award in seven categories as well as an award from the National Society of Film Critics in the United States.

8. Casablanca (1942)

The film tells a romantic drama that takes place in the Moroccan city of Casablanca during World War II. The main character faces a difficult choice: follow his principles or save the love of his life. It’s a film about honor, dignity and, of course, love.

The film won three Oscars: Best Picture, Best Director and Best Screenplay. The success of the feature took a while to happen, but now this is one of the most famous films in the history of cinema. In the early 2000s, American singer Madonna was interested in doing a remake of the story, in which she would play the main character, but she couldn’t get a deal with a Hollywood studio.

7. Avengers: Endgame (2019)

The extraordinary finale to the superhero franchise, in which Good once again triumphs over Evil. Thor, Iron Man, Captain America, Black Widow and other characters come together to face their main enemy – the mighty titan Thanos.

The film received high praise from fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and won six of its eight Saturn Award nominations, as well as the United States Actors Guild Award for Best Stunt Ensemble. The fantastic blockbuster occupies the second position on the list of the highest grossing of all time, second only to Avatar, and raised more than 1 billion dollars in the first five days of exhibition.

6. Parasite (2019)

The South Korean drama just blew up in international theaters. The events of the film revolve around a family living in extreme poverty. Luckily, the youngest son gets a job as a tutor in a wealthy family, and immediately hatches a plan to employ his relatives as well.

The film received four Oscars, Golden Globes, four Saturn Awards and became the first South Korean cinematographic work to receive the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival.

5. The Wizard of Oz (1939)

This musical is considered the best cinematographic adaptation of one of the best-known works of children’s literature, the homonymous book by Lyman Frank Baum. No wonder it was nominated for three Oscars and won two golden statuettes: Best Song and Best Original Soundtrack. And in 2004 the song “Somewhere Over the Rainbow”, which is the theme of the film, was evaluated by the American Film Institute as the Best Movie Song.

4. Citizen Kane (1941)

The events of the feature develop around the death of a myth of the American press, Charles Kane. The film is built from scenes from the protagonist’s past that provide answers to many questions, such as, for example, why an honest journalist became a greedy egoist.

The film received positive reviews but was a failure at the box office. The protagonist was inspired by a real person, the millionaire William Hearst, who prohibited the mention of the feature in any of his newspapers, and at the time newspapers were almost the only source of publicity. Even so, the film received eight Oscar nominations and ended up winning the award for Best Original Screenplay.

3. Black Panther (2018)

In third place in the ranking is the fantastic action film directed by Ryan Coogler. The story follows the trajectory of T’Challa, the young prince of Wakanda, who, after being crowned, must protect his people and prevent enemies from taking possession of a powerful metal that can absorb vibration.

The film won three Academy Awards, five Saturn Awards, two Screen Actors Guild Awards, among many others. More than a thousand costumes were created especially for the film.

2. Modern Times (1936)

Charlie Chaplin’s silent tragicomedy narrates the life of a common worker who is in search of his happiness, trying to establish himself in the age of technological innovations. The protagonist constantly finds himself in ridiculous situations. Sometimes he manages to escape punishment, but in most cases he is not so lucky. Later, he finds a partner and together they try to survive this difficult period in history.

In one of the final scenes — and for the first time in film history — the main character is given a voice, and this marked the beginning of talkies. The film was recognized as one of Chaplin’s finest works, and in 1989 it was selected for preservation in the US National Film Registry.

1. It Happened One Night (1934)

This is a novel about difficult choices and unexpected gifts of fate. Ellie, the daughter of a millionaire, wants to marry her beloved, which her father does not approve of. She runs away from home and on her way to New York she meets the unemployed journalist, Peter. Together they come up with a plan to help each other. But one night changes everything.

The film won five Oscars and is considered a cult film that influenced even the lives of ordinary people. In one of the scenes, Peter took his shirt off and there was no shirt underneath. At the time, this probably stunned the public: T-shirt sales immediately dropped as men stopped wearing them.
