Remember that it is always best to consult a doctor before using any medicine.

1. Gargle with salt water

Something as simple as salt can help heal your throat by helping to draw phlegm out of inflamed tissue. All you need to do is mix half a teaspoon of salt with 8 oz of warm water, stirring until the salt has completely dissolved. Then, gargle with the mixture for a few seconds. If your throat still hurts, repeat several times a day. You can also add lemon juice to the mixture, to help kill more viruses and bacteria.

2. Use some honey

honey is a natural cough suppressant, which can serve as a perfect home remedy. Taking a spoon of it can reduce night cough, especially in children. If you don’t like the taste of honey, you can add it to tea or warm water. Some people like to make popsicles with honey to soothe a burning throat.

3. Make inhalation

4. Suck on some garlic

It probably never occurred to you to suck on garlic, but it’s a great way to help soothe a burning throat, thanks to a chemical substance called allicinwhich can really kill the bacteria in the throat. Just peel a clove of garlic, cut it in half and suck the 2 sides between your cheeks. Try crushing the garlic with your cloves, but not chewing it.

5. Eat small pieces of popsicle

While many sore throat remedies involve hot drinks, cold foods can also be soothing, like delicious fruit popsicles. You can “eat” small pieces, letting them melt in your mouth. Otherwise, they can irritate the throat even more.

6. Drink lemon juice with honey

Citrus fruits such as lemons can really help with a sore throat. Mix a spoon of honey with lemon juice and drink some of the mixture several times a day. Some people even make hot lemonade. Just remember that the drink made with lemon should only be taken in small sips so as not to irritate the throat. So try using a straw. Or, if you want to be more environmentally friendly, just take small sips, very slowly.

7. Prepare a drink with radish

You can use pure or dried radish root. Mix it with a teaspoon of honey, a teaspoon of ground cloves and a glass of warm water. Once mixed, drink slowly. You can also use radishes to make fire cider, a drink made from roots kept in vinegar that helps to improve the immune system🇧🇷 Basically, the recipe includes a mixture of radish with garlic, apple cider vinegar and honey.

8. Gargle with apple cider vinegar

9. Mix some coconut oil in your food

Coconut oil is a popular ingredient in recipes, and luckily, it provides many throat health benefits. It fights infections, inflammation and pain. It even helps to lubricate the throat. You can add a tablespoon of oil to tea, water or even some of your favorite soups. If you prefer, you can let a spoonful of it melt in your mouth.

10. Consume dairy products

You may have heard that you shouldn’t drink milk if you are sick, as this food can cause phlegm, but the truth is more complex than that. Milk and dairy products can effectively thicken phlegm, but they do not increase it.

This food can relieve sore throat. Mix milk with honey or chocolate to thicken it and leave a little in your throat. In addition, milk is still good when the person is sick, as it is a healthy way to get calories if your sore throat prevents you from eating.

11. Make a mixture with marshmallow root

12. Spray the throat with echinacea and sage

13. Keep your head up when taking a nap

A nap can do wonders when you’re sick. the trick is keep your head higher while sleeping🇧🇷 All you need to do is rest your head on 2 or 3 pillows instead of one, lifting your head up. This will not only help you breathe easier, but it will also keep your mouth closed, preventing the throat from irritating even more.

14. Make some golden milk

We already said that milk is good! But this specialty from India is not exactly milk (it doesn’t take animal protein, but rice or almond milk, for example) and it has many names, such as turmeric tea or golden milk, and has been used for decades to cure many diseases. To make it, crush a few pieces of turmeric and mix the powder with boiling water and milk, adding honey or ginger. To make it even more effective against a sore throat, add some ghee (clarified butter) to the mixture before drinking, as this will help to eliminate cough.

Bonus: When to See a Doctor?

Remember, in most cases, a sore throat can be treated at home with simple remedies, but there are times when you need to consult a doctor🇧🇷 If you have a high fever, lasts longer than a few days, won’t let you sleep, or even causes a red rash in your mouth, it could be something more serious. It is possible that you have an infection that the doctor should treat with antibiotics.
