Angelina Jolie, The Switch — Christine Collins

The story of a woman, whose 9-year-old son disappeared and then miraculously appeared, made front-page news in 1928. When Collins claimed the boy was not her son, the police accused her of shirking her duty to mother and to make light of the efforts of the police. She ended up in a psychiatric hospital, where she remained until the boy himself confessed to the lie. It was later discovered that the real Walter Collins may have been the victim of a serial killer, as previously thought.

Daniel Radcliffe, Escape from Pretoria — Tim Jenkin

In 2020, Radcliffe appeared in an unusual role for the general public. However, the most curious thing is that the film is inspired by the memories of the real Tim Jenkin. In 1978, he and his friend Stephen Lee were captured and ended up in prison in Cape Town. Jenkin was sentenced to 12 years in prison, but managed to escape in 1979. Since then, he has traveled extensively around the world to talk about his story.

Martin Scorsese produced a film inspired by real events. Frank Rosenthal, nicknamed Lefty, arrived in Las Vegas in the late 1960s and started illegal activities in the city. He was married to Geri McGee, played by Sharon Stone. McGee actually met the sad end shown in the film, as Frank survived the assassination attempt and lived to be 79.

Selma Blair, American Crime Story — Kris Jenner

Selma Blair played the famous socialite, in the series that tells the scandalous case of former American football player O. J. Simpson. His ex-wife was found dead and Simpson was the prime suspect. He was defended in court by his attorney Robert Kardashian — the first husband of Kris Jenner, father of Kim and Kourtney Kardashian.

Christian Bale, Hustle — Mel Weinberg

Christian Bale’s character was inspired by a famous crook. In the late 1970s, Weinberg agreed to cooperate with the authorities and for several years was a “player” in a major operation to expose the scammers.

Emma Stone, War of the Sexes — Billie Jean King

Christian Bale The Winner — Dicky Eklund

Eklund was a successful former professional boxer. After retiring, he coached his half-brother Micky Ward, played in the film by Mark Wahlberg. For this role, Christian Bale won a Golden Globe and an Oscar.

Cate Blanchett, The Aviator — Katharine Hepburn

Katherine was a star of Hollywood’s golden age. She has had a long, eventful life and has been played by several actresses. In the film The Aviator, the role went to Cate Blanchett. The production tells the story of Howard Hughes, with whom Hepburn had a serious relationship. Hughes even thought about marrying her, but the actress opted for the career.

Philip Seymour Hoffman, Capote — Truman Capote

One of the writer’s best-known novels is Breakfast at Tiffany’s, but the film about Capote recounts the events that took place in the creation of another book, In Cold Blood. During the process of designing the work, Truman met a real criminal and even developed a friendship with the killer.

Chiwetel Ejiofor, 12 Years a Slave — Solomon Northup

The shocking film touches the depths of the soul with the injustice and cruelty of the events shown, but the worst thing is that it is a true story. The real Salomon was born in 1807 or 1808 as a free man, and was later imprisoned for 12 long years. Upon leaving captivity, he wrote a memoir, which served as the basis for the feature film.

Russell Crowe, A Beautiful Mind — John Nash

The story of a brilliant mathematician struggling with mental illness was not a screenplay concocted by a director. John Nash is a real person, winner of a Nobel Prize in 1994. At age 31, he was diagnosed with schizophrenia and spent several years in hospitals. After 11 years, Nash’s condition improved and he was able to continue his scientific activities.

Charlize Theron, Monster: Assassin’s Desire — Aileen Wuornos

To play a serial killer, Charlize made great sacrifices and in the film is practically unrecognizable. The filmmakers accurately conveyed the events of the life of the real Aileen Wuornos, arrested in 1991 at age 34. She spent 11 years in jail awaiting the execution of her sentence: she was sentenced to death.

Bonus: Rose DeWitt Bukater (Kate Winslet), Titanic — Beatrice Wood

While many of the characters in the film were inspired by real people, Rose and Jack are fictional. However, in creating Rose, James Cameron was inspired by a person who really existed — Beatrice Wood. She wasn’t even on the Titanic, although in 1912 she was about the same age as Rose. However, Beatrice lived such an incredible life, was a famous painter, sculptor and actress, that Cameron decided to borrow her personality traits for the character of the long. Wood died shortly after the release of Titanic, aged 105.
