13 hit songs that were initially written for other singers

In many cases, very famous songs around the world fall into popular taste precisely because of the voice of the singer who interprets them. The success is such that the idea of thinking of that song being sung by another artist, from another musical genre, takes on bizarre contours. However, the industry has several similar cases.

Next, the awesome.club brings a list of 13 songs that were almost performed by other artists, as they were originally composed for them. Fate, however, had other plans. Follow the stories!

1. We Can’t Stop

The song was recorded by Miley Cyrus, but had been written for Rihanna, according to the producers. The song was offered to Miley because “we thought this could be someone’s first single”. Interestingly, critics praised the production in general, but were not so benevolent with the lyrics, calling it “questionable”.

2. Resentment

Although it was recorded by Beyoncé, it was originally composed for Victoria Beckham. However, it was not the former Spice Girls who rejected the work. In fact, she even recorded the song for her own album (incidentally, the track can be found on YouTube). However, Victoria’s disc was shelved. If that hadn’t happened, maybe Beyoncé would never have sung that song.

3. Find Your Love

The song was recorded by Drake but had been written for Rihanna. The story goes that the lyrics were composed by Kanye West and his mentor, No ID, who swear they wrote the entire song in just one hour. Producer Jeff Bhasker said: “Find Your Love is an extremely vulnerable song. And in reality, it’s a big risk. You almost feel like the song should be performed by a woman.” However, he said he hoped that the male audience would identify with the lyrics when they heard it sung by a man.

4. Pretty Hurts

This is yet another song recorded by Beyoncé, but it was written for…yes, Rihanna! However, it is known that Sia, author of the hit single, was intended for Katy Perry. However, after getting no response, she resubmitted the work to Rihanna. According to the investigation, however, Riri’s agent held off the song for eight months, not wanting to pay the fees to guarantee the rights to the work. According to Sia: “Beyoncé heard the song, went quickly to the operations center and simply closed the deal.”

5. Disorder

This song was recorded by Rihanna, but composed by Chris Brown. She was even considered for entry on Chris’ own album re-release, but when he finished the song, he realized it would be more suitable if it were played by a woman.

6. Just Dance

Kimberly Wyatt, singer of the Pussycat Dolls, stated that the group welcomed the song with a suggestion to record it, but passed up the opportunity. In fact, Lady Gaga wrote several songs for the album Doll Domination that were rejected, such as Text You Pictures and SuperStar.

7. Sugar

This track, praised by critics for its catchy rhythm, was originally written by American singer-songwriter Mike Posner. When he started to produce the material to include it in his future album, entitled Pages, Adam Levine heard about the work, heard the song and wanted to include Sugar in the record that Maroon 5 was preparing, but Mike refused. However, in 2014, the composer announced that Pages would not be released, and decided to give the track to Adam, who, in turn, gave a special touch to the song, changing it lyrically. In addition, he changed melodic aspects that evidently contributed to the success of the final version.

8. Chandelier

This big hit, which we can’t even imagine in the voice of anyone other than Sia’s (not least because it was composed by her) was originally for Rihanna or Beyoncé. However, in the end, Sia decided to play her herself.

9. Alive

Again, another musical composition by Sia, Alive, was made especially to be performed by Adele. By the way, the song talks about the life of Adele, who participated in a songwriting session with Sia. The song, however, was eventually rejected.

10. Get Right

The track, attributed to J.Lo, is actually a reworking of a song Usher had created for his own album. When he discarded the song Ride, parts of it found their way into Jennifer’s hands, which didn’t make Usher very happy.

11. Since U Been Gone

The song performed by Kelly Clarkson was rejected first by Pink and then by Hilary Duff. Thus, Kelly was third in line, but the track remains one of the singer’s biggest hits on the charts.

12. Come and Get It

What would become Selena Gómez’s first Top 10 single was yet another one of Rihanna’s categorical rejections. And although Selena made the composition a great success, many critics ended up comparing her style to that of the Caribbean singer.

13. I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing
