Singleness is a fantastic phase in any woman’s life. Before we decide to combine our toothbrush with that of some handsome guy out there, we go through phases that range from total fascination with the freedom that single life gives us, going through stages of acceptance of the lonely condition, to complete depression – which normally occurs when all the friends are dating, and passes as soon as they are single again, in an (almost) endless cycle.

When women are out of a relationship, they tend to behave in a variety of ways. Writer Michelle Cove has just released a book entitled “Seeking happily ever after: navigating the ups and downs of being single without losing your mind (and finding lasting love along the way)” – or, in Portuguese, “Buscando o ‘felizes para always’: navigating the ups and downs of being single without losing your mind (and finding lasting love along the way)”.

To write it, the author interviewed more than 100 women about relationships and the things they expect from them, as well as what makes them unhappy when they are involved with someone else. At the end of the interview process, Cove finally came to the conclusion that most of the women she came into contact with fit one of 12 profiles of single women.

1 – The soulmate hunter

This woman hopes to bump into a man who was designed specifically for her. She expects “O” man.

2 – The phoenix

The phoenix woman has recently experienced a painful breakup. Now, she intends to do everything to overcome the crisis and turn around.

3 – The natural

She prefers to go on with her life as normal instead of looking for the ideal man. He believes that fate will naturally bring him to her.

4 – The princess waiting for Prince Charming

A woman with this profile is definitely waiting for a prince to rescue her.

5 – The one on “stand-by”

She doesn’t start anything in her life until her ideal partner appears.

6 – The “free spirit”

She fears choosing between one thing or the other: an independent life or a serious relationship. Thus, she opts for independence.

7 – Desperate for a marriage

After spending 70% of her life not giving a damn about marriage, this creature is suddenly desperate to find a man to call her own.

8 – The rebel

She no longer expects to lead the quiet and unoriginal lifestyle chosen by the rest of society, because she has already experienced it once.

9 – The inventor of new rituals

This woman likes to create her own traditions. Although she truly wants to get married, she has very strong opinions about performing an out-of-the-ordinary ceremony.

10 – Who knows future mother

She even thinks about having children someday, but wishes she didn’t feel so much biological pressure to do so early.

11 – The “Slow and Steady”

Marriage is in the plans, but only when the time is right. Meanwhile, she tries not to give in to the demands of family, society and even friends.

12 – The Pathfinder

Knowing that married life was not meant for her, this woman tries to find new paths to happiness.

It doesn’t matter which of these categories you fall into, the important thing is to enjoy and accept the “off season” of relationships to rediscover yourself, satisfying all your wants while you have no one to take care of.
