True facts: Ted Bundy has been dubbed the charismatic killer for his fascination with his victims. One of the most “famous” maniacs in US history met girls in public places, pretending to be injured or pretending to be a public service representative.

Bundy was incredibly smart: the police arrested him several times, but the killer managed to escape justice and commit new crimes. Between court visits, Bundy still managed to get married and have a daughter. The maniac loved to give interviews and enjoyed his “5 minutes of fame”. However, despite all his tricks, the court sentenced him to death. Approximately 30 people were killed by Ted Bundy.

His father was a sadist and an alcoholic, his mother was an oppressor and he had an unhealthy relationship with his brother: that was Ed’s childhood. The Gein family home has become a place of monstrous crimes. After the maniac’s arrest, the house of terror caught fire: probably, the locals burned it down due to its bad reputation. Ed Gein was not sentenced to prison as he was declared to have a mental disorder. However, he lived a long life in the psychiatric hospital, where he died of cancer.

Movie: Ed Gein’s crimes formed the basis for the creation of a large number of horror books and films. In Alfred Hitchcock’s thriller, Psychosis, a young woman faces a mysterious maniac. By the way, the killer, like Gein, had a difficult relationship with his mother and kills the girls because he has a voice in his head that tells him to do so. True facts: 23-year-old sailor Tami Ashcraft and her fiancé Richard Sharpe went on a boat trip to idyllic islands in the Pacific Ocean. The couple’s trip turned out to be a real catastrophe: they faced a tropical hurricane and tried desperately to manage the yacht between the 12-meter waves. The beautiful love story ended very tragically: Tami’s fiancé was thrown from the deck by a wave. However, the girl, despite a serious head injury and having only a sextant and a navigation watch at her disposal, managed to reach dry land. The fight for her life lasted 41 days.

Movie: the meeting in Tahiti for Tami and Richard was the beginning of a romantic story. Of course, the journey on the luxury yacht through the warm waters promised many unforgettable impressions. But the couple had to face a big storm, acting with all the strength of their being and resisting to survive.

True facts: Oliver Sacks is a prominent neurologist, gifted writer and popularizer of medicine. wake up time is an autobiographical novel in which the doctor describes curiosities about his practice. He treated critically ill patients suffering the consequences of encephalitis lethargica. People who survived the infection lost the ability to move and speak and fell into a catatonic stupor. Sachs, on his own, administered the experimental drug called L-DOPA. After that, his condition improved almost instantly.

Movie: As a shy young man, Dr. Malcolm Sayer begins work at the hospital, where victims of a terrible epidemic of encephalitis lethargica are being admitted. Some patients were immobilized for many decades and were unable to communicate with the outside world. Sayer tries to understand the causes of the disease and selects Leonardo for treatment (played by Robert De Niro), who has been paralyzed for 30 years. The awakening of the first patient inspires the doctor and provides the experimental drug to the rest of the victims.

True facts: Bernie Tiede, originally from the city of Carthage, Texas, was simply a very kind man who enjoyed popularity among the locals, especially the older ladies. He worked as a mortician and was always willing to help people who were going through a bad time. The protagonist of this story met the wealthy (and much older) widow Marjorie Nugent at her husband’s funeral. The woman had a bad reputation in town, mostly because of her bad temper. The widow and undertaker’s relationship developed quickly, and Marjorie even made a will in his favor.

Soon, Marjorie Nugent disappeared. It so happened that Bernie Tiede shot his “benefactress”. At the trial, the killer claimed that the widow had mistreated him: he made scandals and obsessively pursued her every move. However, the jury failed to take these circumstances into account and sentenced Bernie to life in prison.

Movie: the deputy director of a Texas funeral home forms a close friendship with an elderly widow. But soon, due to the lady’s bad temper, the man finds himself in trouble and is forced to take extreme measures.

True facts: the killer nicknamed the Zodiac is perhaps the most famous criminal in the United States. First, because he hasn’t been captured yet. The maniac committed murders in the late 1960s, killing 12 people.

But it is worth noting a particularity of the Zodiac case: he sent mocking letters to local newspapers.
