12 Not-So-Remembered Series From the 90s That Were Part of Your Childhood

The 1990s happened almost 30 years ago and it seems like yesterday that instead of looking for entertainment on the internet, we just had to turn on the television, sit down at the same time every day and tune into the same channel to watch our favorite series. Many of them remain in our minds every day, so much so that even today we can repeat the jokes and almost recite entire chapters as many times as we have seen them. But there are also others, those that we saw once or that we may know complete, but for some reason we don’t remember so clearly.

O awesome.club made a list of 12 series broadcast in the 1990s that many saw, but which were left behind in our memory.

1. Step by Step (1991)

This is the story of a Wisconsin contractor who falls in love with a widowed fashion designer on vacation in Jamaica and they decide to get married. Upon returning from rest, they must each inform their respective three children of their decision and begin the movement towards the house where the series is developed. It is at this point that they must learn to live with the two families, their differences, taking on the challenge of forming one. At the start of this sitcom, we can see how the new family is perfectly dysfunctional and full of hostile behavior, which is exactly what makes up the comedy, along with the disparity of personalities in each chapter.

2. The Quintet (1994)

The five Salinger brothers were orphaned after their parents were involved in a car accident. The eldest brother, aged 24, would be responsible for the family consisting of two teenagers dealing with their emotions and rebellion, an 11-year-old prodigy and a baby. In addition to the obligation to keep the family together, they must run the family restaurant and face problems such as cancer and the loss of custody of one of the children, among others that form the drama of the protagonists.

3. A Guest of Noise (1991)

The Hendersons are a typical Western Pacific family who have a peculiar pet: a bigfoot they meet on a trip through the woods. They decide to adopt him and take him home. Harry’s curious and naive nature has the Hendersons going through dozens of adventures since their first chapter, trying to repair the damage caused by the new family member’s large size, all the while trying to keep him a secret.

4. Babylon 5 (1993)

This sci-fi series is currently cataloged as cult because, interestingly, it was the first to be announced on social media (which at the time were forums where people shared the quirks of the series). Babylon 5 is a space station where individuals from different planets converge to carry out trade, ensure peace in the galaxy and share knowledge of different species: Humans, Minbari, Narn, Centauri and Vorlon, all inspired by the ancient civilizations of our history.

5. Melrose Place (1992)

Today, the name of this series is not mentioned much, however this was one of the most successful of the 90’s and is based on the adventures of a group of teenagers who live in the housing complex that gives the show its name. They range from love triangles, unexpected truths and conflicts between couples. This drama series is well known because many of its characters die during the story and because of the number of characters that come and go.

6. Frasier (1993)

This series is actually a spinoff of cheers, an 1980s sitcom, and was also one of the most successful of its time. It is the story of Frasier, a psychiatrist who returns to the city of Washington after having lived through a failed marriage in Boston, ready to revive his singleness. But his plans take a new direction, as he must give asylum to his father, a retired detective who has been shot and cannot live alone. The father ends up moving into his son’s house with his dog. Niles, Frasier’s brother, visits the apartment and falls in love with Daphne, the therapist Frasier hired to care for his father.

7. Sister to the Square (1994)

After meeting and being confused in a clothing store, Tia and Tamera meet without knowing each other’s existence, accompanied by their adoptive parents (both single). The girls decide to move in together to raise a family, although both Tia’s mother and Tamera’s father do not agree, because they are as opposites as water and oil. After moving into their new home, they meet Roger, a neighbor who is completely obsessed with them and makes it a difficult task to keep him out of the house.

8. Home Improvement (1991)

The Taylors are a typical American family with three children and led by “Toolman”, who runs a television show called “ToolTime” with Al Borland, who carries out the projects within the program while Tim Taylor enjoys all his fame. At home, he has to deal with the different problems of a normal family, taking advice on all of his dilemmas from the neighbor who lives on the other side of the fence and whose upper face we can only see throughout the entire series.

9. Seventh Heaven (1996)

This was the longest-running family drama in television history and one of the most watched. The Camden family lives in a fictional town, supposedly located in California. Reverend Erick Camden is the father of seven children and, along with his wife Annie, is involved in moral conflicts that directly or indirectly affect the family. In each chapter we see how they manage to resolve them and deal with what life throws at them. Issues such as sexuality, racism and bullying are approached from a social perspective.

10. A Family from Another World (1996)

Four aliens are on a mission to come to Earth and report on the human race. To do this, they not only have to travel, but incorporate four humans completely different in gender, age and personality to form a normal family without being discovered, despite ignoring all the customs and behaviors of humanity. Dick Solomon is the mission leader and has a job teaching physics at the university; Tommy, the intelligence officer, lives in the body of a teenager; Sally is originally a security officer, but is forced to take a woman’s body; and Harry is the official communicator with a very peculiar personality.

11. Spin City (1996)

Mike Flaherty’s story takes place in New York. He has to protect Mayor Randall Winston from situations that try to ruin his career and personal life and that are often caused by himself. The series takes place within working hours at city hall, with the different personalities of its employees, conflicts between departments and political issues.

12. Raymond and Company (1996)

Raymond Barone is an Italian-American family man who lives on Long Island in a house across the street from his parents. He is a sports journalist and his whole family enjoys golf. However, neither his brother Robert nor his parents hesitate for a second to intrude on his life. And they always do that, contributing a lot of the humor that characterizes this situation comedy. The series is about conflicts between couples and in relation to different generations from Raymond’s own perspective. The story is inspired by the real life of its creator.
