12 Mexican soap operas where the protagonist had to be replaced in the middle of the story

In some telenovelas the actors interpret their roles so well that the public immediately falls in love with them. But viewers often forget that actors are human beings too and that acting work is just like any other: people get sick, have disagreements with bosses, sometimes fight with colleagues and occasionally have accidents. . All these situations can force the actor to leave the soap opera. When that happens, the audience also suffers, after all it is very difficult to get used to a new actor when we are already completely enchanted with the story.

We, from awesome.club, we think it is important that these cases are explained. That’s why, today, we bring you a list of actors and actresses who left the soap opera in the middle of the story and we’ll explain what happened. Check out!

1. Accomplices to a Rescue 🇧🇷Accomplices to the rescue)

Who watched the fun children’s soap opera Accomplices to the Rescue he was probably surprised by Belinda’s departure. But that was not the only surprise of the soap opera. Many viewers were quite intrigued when they discovered that Silvana and Mariana were not played by twin sisters, but by the same actress.

But the case of Belinda’s replacement really made the public very angry, mainly because it happened so unexpectedly. Belinda’s fans didn’t understand anything and felt betrayed by management. Luckily, Daniela Luján did an incredible job and little by little she won the public’s affection and admiration.

A few years later, Belinda wanted to clarify the situation and explained why she left the soap opera. What happened was that because of the great success, the producers decided to extend the story, but Belinda already had other plans. “I remember that I already had other commitments and I couldn’t refuse them. It was at that moment that I decided to start my career as a singer and made my first album. I think it was the best decision I could have made. I’ve learned a lot from all the ups and downs I’ve had in my career and in my life.”

two. woman of wood

Edith González lived through a complicated situation during the recording of woman of wood: she became pregnant before filming began. Her belly began to appear on the screen and she had to leave the soap opera three months later, because her physical appearance did not match the heroine of the story. The production had no choice but to change actresses, which was not easy given Edith’s fame.

Ana Patricia Rojo was the chosen actress who accepted the challenge. However, although she is a very talented actress, the public once again needed a little time to adapt to the new situation, because nothing seemed too easy to believe. Neither the blonde hair, nor the similar hairstyle and not even the contact lenses were enough for her to look like the other actress.

Luckily, Ana Patricia’s talent little by little captivated and moved the audience and made the telenovela become a great success, with many nominations for important awards. Edith González was able to live the last months of her pregnancy without pressure and without a busy schedule. Some say it was a happier ending than many telenovelas.

3. Until the End of the World

Perhaps Edith González’s departure was precipitated, but at least there was a well-made replacement attempt, different from what happened in the telenovela Until the End of the World, who decided to change the actor in the same chapter (in practically the same scene). An actor left the scene and another came in her place saying to his beloved: “With you… Until the end of the world”. Actor Pedro Fernández was not replaced, he was transformed into David Zepeda as if by magic.

The problem is that Pedro Fernández left when the telenovela was very successful. Marjorie de Sousa, who played Sofía Ripoll, Salvador Cruz’s love, gave the following explanation about the actor’s departure: “I suffered a lot, because the soap opera was having a great time, the public loved our couple. I found out about the actor switch the day we broke a ratings record, and I never knew what the reason was. Seriously, we never found out.”

However, actor David Zepeda knew very well how to face the role of protagonist and left fans delighted. Pedro Fernández explained that he left the telenovela for health reasons, mainly due to stress and long working hours. However, Marjorie’s comment suggests that the reasons given by the actor never managed to convince either the spectators or even his professional colleagues.

4. Until the End of the World

And as if the somewhat controversial change of the telenovela’s protagonist wasn’t enough, actress María Rojo, who played the character Lupita, Salvador Cruz’s mother, also decided to leave the recordings. However, her reason for leaving was not a health issue; she decided to devote herself fully to politics. Actress Leticia Perdigón took her place, who knew how to give the character a lot of charm.

5. Love madness

This telenovela was definitely madness, but not in love, it was production madness. Actress Adriana Nieto, who played Natalia Sandoval, was fired when there were a few episodes left to finish the story. She was replaced by Irán Castillo, who had to find a way to give her personal touch to the character and please an audience already used to the other actress.

But what led the production team to take such an extreme decision to fire the telenovela’s protagonist? The producer did not mince words and said that he considered her an irresponsible and unpunctual person. He made other unfriendly accusations that proved that the actress’ departure did not happen in a very peaceful way.

The good part of the story was that the exchange allowed Natalia to have a happy ending with her great love, Enrique. But of course much of the audience was more confused than happy. A few years later, Adriana Nieto admitted that she matured a lot after that experience and recognized that she would like to work again with the same producers, to demonstrate how much she has changed.

6. I will always love you

As in the case of Adriana Nieto, the case of actor Fernando Carrillo also involves a lack of punctuality. They say he was fired from the soap opera I will always love you, in which he played the main heartthrob, because he was very unpunctual and always arrived late for the recordings.

But was that really it? The telenovela producer explained that the reason for the dismissal was that the story ended up being extended and Fernando Carrillo already had other commitments. Luckily for everyone, Arturo Peniche entered history playing a new character who not only won the love of the protagonist but also the admiration of the public.

7. Daniela’s Diary (El diario de Daniela)

Daniel’s Diary was a children’s soap opera that conquered children and adults alike with its characters and songs. The public quickly fell in love with the protagonist’s father, a role played by actor Marcelo Buquet. However, he was replaced by Gerardo Murguía, who, in addition to not looking like Marcelo at all, did not even have the same nationality.

Despite the initial shock – and perhaps because of the fact that the protagonist was not changed – the public was adapting to the newest member of the cast. Marcelo’s departure was due to budgetary issues that could not be resolved. Despite this incident, both he and most of the actors who starred in the telenovela continue to shine in other projects for television and cinema.

8. Wild Rose (Rosa salvaje)

Every good soap opera needs a heroine who falls in love, a heartthrob to melt viewers’ hearts and, obviously, an unforgettable villain. Actress Edith González did a memorable job as the villain Leonela in the telenovela wild rose, but midway through the story she decided to drop the role. The scriptwriters did not want to exclude the character and the producers decided to put Felicia Mercado in her place. Felicia continued Edith’s beautiful work and made Rosa’s life hell.

Some time later, Edith González explained that she decided to leave the soap opera due to certain attitudes of the production team that made her feel unappreciated: “I left and people thought I was fired. But nobody fired me, I resigned. And I didn’t care if it forced me to be a waitress for the rest of my life, or if I became a taxi driver.” Apparently, the actress made the right decision, because in the following years she participated in many other projects, always as a protagonist.

9. Postal Code

Postal Code was a fun youth soap opera set in the beautiful region of Acapulco. Right at the beginning of the recordings, actress Jery Sandoval, who played the protagonist Regina, was fired because she was absent from the recordings for long periods.

Some time later, the actress said that she missed work many times because she needed to take care of her mother, but she did not know how to explain the situation to the production. In her place, the directors called África Zavala, who played the new protagonist of the soap opera, Victoria, who ended up with the heartthrob in the end. Luckily, Jery managed to find a balance between personal and professional life and today works as an actress, singer and model.

10. When I fall in love (When I fall in love)

In addition to heroes and villains, telenovelas do not happen without great allies. in the famous soap opera When I fall in love, the person responsible for taking on this role was Wendy González, who played the character Adriana Beltrán, best friend of Renata, the protagonist of the story.

Despite the great work, she had to abandon the role because of an accident in which she injured her knee and which required a long treatment. The actress was eventually replaced by Florencia de Saracho. The direction of the soap opera decided that the priority was Wendy’s health, so they made the decision to keep the character and change the actress.

11. Aurora

Aurora it had a very original plot and had been surprising viewers when, in the middle of the story, the director decided to change the protagonist Aurora, played by Sara Maldonado, by Ángela Amenabar, played by Sonya Smith.

With the elimination of the character who gave the soap opera its name, people began to think that there was a problem behind the directors’ decisions. Many thought that the actress had behaved improperly and that was why she had been fired. However, the directors themselves decided to talk about it and explained that Sara was not to blame for anything. The story progressed in such a way that the only way to maintain coherence was with a new protagonist.

They also said they would give the actress other roles: “We will be very happy to continue…
