12 Habits That Little by Little Harm Our Health

Everyone knows that habits like smoking or eating fast food are bad for health, but there are many other habits that, although they don’t seem so harmful, have become part of our daily lives. Therefore, we should start avoiding them.

Today the incredible.club brings 12 very common habits, but which, silently, can do a lot of harm to our organism.

1. Leave your wallet in your back pocket

Everyone knows that one of the most practical places to put your wallet is in your back pocket. Although it seems normal, by doing this you are harming your health. Sitting on the desk, even for just 15 minutes, can dislocate the spine, causing its ligaments to change.

The asymmetry created can disturb the normal alignment of the spine. Sitting on your desk for a long time can lead to chronic back pain.

2. Bring electronics to bed

Recent studies show that using electronic equipment before bed impairs the quality of sleep. Despite this, a study carried out by National Sleep Foundation (National Sleep Foundation) showed that approximately 89% of adults and 75% of children have at least one electronic device in their bedroom.

In addition to affecting sleep, using electronic equipment before bed can make a person put on weight and feel fatigued during the day. By doing so, we undermine our productivity and learning ability, in addition to being more stressed. Staying away from any electronic equipment an hour before bed improves our night a lot and is very good for our health.

3. Hand wash with hot water

Several studies confirm that cold water is as effective as hot water in killing germs and removing bacteria from your hands. According to some studies, the elimination of bacteria has nothing to do with the temperature of the water. Furthermore, it has been confirmed that cold water is even healthier for your hands.

Hot water does not kill bacteria, boiling water does. That’s why medical instruments are boiled before use. Since washing your hands in boiling water is not an option, only cold water remains. Because? Because washing your hands in hot water will only make your skin softer and therefore more vulnerable to germs.

4. Drinking from a plastic bottle

It makes sense to assume that drinking water from a plastic bottle is healthy. However, not all materials are equally healthy and environmentally friendly. Plastic bottles release chemical compounds when exposed to high temperatures.

If you leave a bottle in your car all day, the surface layers can release a toxic substance (bisphenol A) and contaminate the water you drink. These products can affect your endocrine system and increase your risk of endometriosis and even breast cancer.

5. Eating too fast

Many studies show that chewing and eating too fast can cause serious problems. In addition to putting on weight faster, you are at greater risk of having a heart problem, diabetes and even a heart attack.

People who eat too fast are likely to eat more, as it takes approximately 20 minutes for the brain to transmit the signals that you are full. So you keep eating and only later realize that you ate too much.

6. Brush your teeth right after eating

Most people like to brush their teeth right after a meal, but according to studies, it’s ideal to wait at least 30 minutes. Our teeth are coated with enamel and the acids in food can wear down that protection. This means that our teeth are in a fragile state after eating.

Thankfully, our body manages to balance acidity with the help of saliva, but that takes time. Therefore, brushing your teeth right after a meal is something of an attack on your teeth, even if you use a soft toothbrush. It’s best to let the saliva do its job and balance the acidity before brushing. Rinse your mouth with water or chew some gum and only after 30 minutes brush your teeth.

7. Clean the ear with a cotton swab

Cleaning the ears with a cotton swab is not good. According to a study, doing so pushes wax into the ear canal, which can lead to infections, a perforated eardrum, and tinnitus.

The most recommended thing is not to touch the wax. It works as a filter for the ear canal and prevents dust from entering. Cleaning the ears with a cotton swab increases vulnerability to different types of dirt. But if you still want to clean your ears, use a towel.

8. Use a hand dryer

Hand dryers may be more environmentally friendly than paper, but they’re not healthier for us. One study showed that hair dryers in public restrooms dump fecal coliforms onto your hands. The mechanism used sucks the coliforms out of the air and blows them back out.

Study results indicate that many types of bacteria, including spores and pathogens, can be transferred in this process. The best thing to do is to avoid these dryers and dry your hands the old-fashioned way.

9. Drinking too much juice

Drinking orange juice is good for your health because it is rich in vitamin C, vitamin B and antioxidants. However, drinking too much juice is unhealthy. Among the problems related to excess juice, cavities, type 2 diabetes and obesity stand out.

This happens because juices contain a lot of fructose. It doesn’t matter what type, as even good quality juices contain high doses of sugar.

10. Consume too much salt

11. Oversleeping

Sleep is the time when the body recovers. But don’t think that more sleep means more rest and better health. Studies prove that sleeping too much also causes risks to our body.

The ideal amount of hours of sleep varies for each person, but the average suggests something between 7 and 9 hours – this should be the standard to consider. Sleeping too much can cause depression, heart disease, obesity, and deteriorating brain function.

12. Sitting all day

In general, whenever we work, study and talk with friends we are sitting down. But what people don’t know is that sitting too long can cause a lot of health problems. Sitting doesn’t involve a lot of energy expenditure, which means little calorie burning.

When we look at health, we realize that sitting too much is associated with early mortality, type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease and obesity. If you have to sit down most of the day at work, try to get up every 30 minutes. Ideally, you should be able to walk around a bit to minimize the negative effects of sitting for so long.
