11 mistakes when choosing shoes that can ruin even a well-thought-out look

It seems that choosing shoes to match an outfit is not a very difficult task, you just need to take into account your own experience. For example, high heels are not always comfortable to wear, however, such models visually lengthen the legs and give the look enviable elegance. While the sneakers and sneakers, which don’t bring any discomfort throughout the day, make your look simpler. However, with some wardrobe pieces, everything works completely the other way around.

We, from awesome.clubwe decided to find out what mistakes we usually make when choosing shoes to match a certain outfit.

Denim shorts look great with flat-soled shoes

High heels are just perfect for accentuating the length of the legs, so a chunky platform or even a high heel seems to be a great choice to pair with denim shorts. But in fact, such a look does not always represent good taste and can look a bit provocative.

When choosing shoes to wear with denim shorts, it’s best to opt for flat-soled shoes or sneakers. If you can’t avoid wearing heels, look for wedge shoes and add a chunky blouse to your outfit to balance the look.

Skinny jeans and chunky heels are not a good combination.

Fitted jeans can be worn with almost any type of footwear and go great with flats, sneakers, high heels and a stylish square heel. However, bulky shoes can distort the look: legs will look too thin and small, and feet too big.

The height of the heel depends on the length of the skirt.

When choosing shoes to match a dress or skirt, you need to take into account the length of such a garment: the shorter the skirt, the lower the heel needs to be. Of course, this is not a hard and fast rule, and there are some exceptions.

But it is worth remembering that high heels or a platform can visually distort the silhouette: the torso will seem too short, and the legs will be too elongated. Sneakers, flats or sandals look much better with short outfits, and you don’t have to worry about the length of your legs.

This rule also works in reverse: skirts or dresses below the knee combine very well with high heels, while flat-soled shoes can detract from the look.

Mid-length pieces look great with sneakers, but the longer the outfit, the higher the heel needs to be.

The position of the shoe strap makes a difference

Shoes with a strap that wraps around the ankle don’t always flatter the look. If the strap is narrow and neutral in color, then such shoes can be worn with any outfit, but dark straps can change the proportions of the legs and visually shorten them. Also, you need to make sure the strap is the right height, doesn’t squeeze your ankle, and isn’t too loose around your ankle.

Open-toe shoes are sometimes not the best choice for office wear.

Of course, it all depends on the company’s dress code, but such shoes can look a little provocative. Although, for the most part, they are considered quite suitable for use in an office. The main thing is not to forget about the pedicure. If you choose shoes with an open toe to go to work, your nails need to be well-groomed.

Wedge shoes go well with shorts. But not with all models

Despite many doubts from women, wedge shoes go very well with shorts, as these two elements create an elegant and casual look. Experts only advise to choose shorts carefully.

Shorts should not be too short or adorned with fringe that shows that the garment has been cut. Otherwise, the look will look a little sloppy. Instead of a tight-fitting blouse, it’s better to opt for a more voluminous one. In general, the wedge heel is suitable for many outfits, including sundresses and long, light skirts.

Pencil skirts don’t look great with sneakers or sandals

Many stylists point out that it is better to combine a pencil skirt with high-heeled shoes, both classics and sandals. However, in this case, too, not everything is so unambiguous. Open-toe flats or sneakers can perfectly complement a casual fitted skirt, as long as the shoes and clothing don’t send different signals.

A dress skirt, which is really more appropriate for an office, and athletic shoes, which are normally associated with an outing, seem a bit of an odd combination. Therefore, this type of skirt does not go very well with sneakers and flat-soled sandals.

It is better not to combine sportswear with high heels

These two wardrobe pieces symbolize completely different activities. Therefore, leggings do not always match high heels or shoes with square heels. They are usually used for exercise or other outdoor activities when not wearing fancy shoes.

Tight pants can be paired with delicate footwear, as long as it is clear that they are not meant for going to the gym. For example, if they are made of leather or with a sophisticated print. In this case, to balance the silhouette, it is advisable to complement the look with a voluminous blouse.

Short pants don’t look good with ‘heavy’ sneakers

Capri pants, as well as short ones, can easily replace shorts. It is a good option for people who prefer not to expose their body too much or simply cannot show up wearing such clothes at work or at an event.

However, it can be difficult to find the right shoes to go with this look, as with some models these pants can visually shorten your legs. It is best not to wear them with shoes that feel heavy, such as athletic shoes, clogs or any bulky shoes. But high heels, sneakers or light sneakers are a good option.

Clogs go very well with long dresses and summer skirts

Clogs are a great choice for the warmer seasons. They are comfortable, stable, do not heat up your feet and are easy to combine with any outfit. But since these shoes feel a little heavy, they look more elegant with baggy pants or light, voluminous dresses and skirts.

You can try clogs with leggings, but this look is likely to be a bit disproportionate: the shoes will feel too heavy compared to thin legs. For the same reason, they do not go well with tights and capris.

Before using gladiator sandals it is good to apply a sunscreen

Gladiator sandals are always in fashion. These models, with heels or flat soles, really enhance the look and emphasize the length of the legs.

When wearing such shoes on a sunny day, the main thing is not to forget about sunscreen. Otherwise, after a long walk in the fresh air, your tanned legs will be ‘decked’ in white stripes. It is preferred that your skirt or dress ends above the knee as it looks a little awkward when the top edge of these sandals and the bottom edge of your clothes almost touch each other.
