10 Unpleasant Moments Experienced by “Game of Thrones” Actors

HBO announced that “Game of Thrones” is the most successful project since the channel was launched: each episode was played almost 20 million times. The good acceptance of the production not only provided an intriguing plot, in which even important characters died unexpectedly, but also great performances. The actors involved did their best on the sets, even when they had to do nasty things on behalf of their characters.

O incredible.club decided to look at the story from a different angle and find out what sacrifices the actors had to make. Spoiler: the bonuses at the end of this post will serve to cheer you up.

Kit Harington Revealed Jon Snow’s Fate to Get Away With a Speeding Ticket

The interpreter of the role of Jon Snow “delivered” details of his character’s fate to a policeman who wanted to fine him for speeding. The law enforcement officer stopped Harington’s car and said, “Either you pay the fine or tell what will happen to Jon Snow.” The actor had to tell the truth: “I will be alive next season”. Thoughtful, the policeman replied: “It may pass, Lord Commander.”

Sophie Turner went two years without washing her hair

The actress who gave life to Sansa Stark was forced to sacrifice personal hygiene in the name of work. Like many male actors, she had to drastically cut back on her shampoo usage for nearly two years, as in scenes after her escape from Winterfell, she needed to look naturally careless.

In an interview, the actress admitted: “In season five, I was asked to stop washing my hair, and it was really disgusting. Then I started wearing a wig and could do whatever I wanted with my hair. But yes, I lived with very oily hair for a few years.”

Maisie Williams fell off a horse

Laughing, the interpreter of the role of Arya Stark recalls one of her first riding scenes. Actors rehearsed with Icelandic horses, which were the size of a pony. However, this did not save the team from some mishaps.

One day, the actress got off the horse the wrong way and got tangled up in the reins. “In the end I jumped on one leg as the other was stuck somewhere near my ear.” At this point, Maisie said, “Oh, great! It looks like the actress doesn’t have to pretend too much about her heroine’s personality.”

Jerome Flynn nearly poisoned himself with diesel fumes

The actor behind Bronn’s role suffered during the dragon battle scene. Cinematographer Robert McLachlan used diesel fuel to produce dark smoke. Jerome Flynn had to be in the middle of the fire for a long time. And while other actors might wear masks to protect themselves from the smoke, he didn’t have that choice. Perhaps that was why he managed to look so naturally upset, as he came close to intoxication.

The actor also commented that even his postman started to hate him after he shot Daenerys’s dragon.

Gwendoline Christie had a scene with a live bear

The scene where Brienne of Tarth meets a bear is not the result of special effects. According to the actress, the bear named Barth Jr. is an experienced actor, who had participated in other productions before “Game of Thrones”.

During the recording of the scene, the actress was separated from the bear only by a very low electric fence. Between shots, the animal was fed using a kind of frying pan with a long handle. According to the team, the strategy was adopted “so that he would not devour the actress”. “Why do you think I looked so scared?” said Christie, recalling the experience.

Lena Headey dealt with viewers’ hate

According to the actress who gave life to Cersei Lannister, the public hated her character so much that the hatred was transmitted to her in real life. For example, a nurse who helped the actress breastfeed her second child said: “Shame!”, in reference to the famous public exposure scene. However, Lena takes all this as a sign that she has done her job well.

Iwan Rheon was hit in the face multiple times

The Ramsay Snow performer, later named Bolton, was hit in the face by Kit Harington on several occasions. During filming of the fight between the bastards, Jon Snow got a little carried away and gave his co-star a nice whack. According to Harington, Rheon took it in stride. However, it must not be easy to have your face hit while working.

Emilia Clarke had nausea during the scene where she ate a heart

When living Daenerys Targaryen, the actress admitted that such a scene was not easy for her. During filming, she had to eat 28 “horse hearts” made from berry jam. According to Emilia Clarke, the taste was reminiscent of dried pasta and bleach. She always had a bucket close by in case she couldn’t stand the urge to vomit.

Castle Black was really nasty

Set designer Richard Roberts went to great lengths to create the space for Castle Black. According to his idea, the place needed to look “dirty, rough, cold and as unpleasant as possible”. To create such an environment, he asked them to hang raw meat and bring in live pigs. The actors say the castle didn’t just look dirty, it was dirty. “But that was how it was supposed to be, so we were happy,” said Roberts. However, it is not known whether the actors agree with him.

Bonus #1: Sean Bean played football with his own head

It wasn’t the first time that the actor who played Ned Stark “died” on screen. And he approaches these sorts of scenes with a healthy, cynical humour. The actor didn’t take long to find a peculiar use for the replica of his head: he used it as a ball to play football with the film crew. If fans had seen it happen, they certainly wouldn’t have suffered so much with the dear character’s death.

Bonus #2: Sophie Turner took home the dog who played Lady

Of course, during the filming of “Game of Thrones”, the actors also accumulated good stories. For example, the dog named Zunny, who played Lady in the Lannisters plot, found a loving family outside the set. Sophie Turner, whose character owned Dama in the series, adopted the animal in real life. She shared her joy with the author of the books that gave rise to the plot, George Martin, and he told everyone.
