10 Times Kate Middleton Altered Designer Clothes and Looked Stunning in Them

Kate Middleton appears in public in clothes from famous brands quite often. However, for the looks to be compatible with the royal dress code, prestigious stylists need to make small changes to their creations. The parts, however, do not suffer from this; on the contrary, they gain a new shine and a special touch.

O awesome.club checked several fashion forums and compared 10 designer pieces worn by runway models or other celebrities with their alternative versions, created exclusively for the Duchess of Cambridge.

1. Alexander McQueen dress

This elegant floral dress by Alexander McQueen has been altered twice. For the first time, Kate wore it at the 2017 British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) awards ceremony. At the time, the Duchess completely modified the bodice. Two years later, she appeared in the same dress at a charity gala dinner, this time adding short sleeves to it.

2. Dress by Emilia Wickstead

In the video message recorded for Burns Night (celebration of the poet and lyricist Robert Burns’ birthday), Kate appears in a red plaid dress by designer Emilia Wickstead. Fashion critics noted that the Duchess had “corrected” the sleeves of the dress: in the original piece, they are more voluminous and made of transparent chambray.

4. Dress by Alessandra Rich

Stylist Alessandra Rich’s printed red dress also underwent minor changes. Especially for the duchess, a voluminous bow has been added that elegantly covers the plunging neckline.

5. Alexander McQueen dress

In 2016, Kate was delighted with a black midi dress with a colorful pattern from McQueen’s autumn-winter collection — you may have already noticed that she is a fan of the designer. For the Duchess, an identical piece was sewn, but in a cream tone.

6. Dress by Jenny Packham

In 2018, Kate and Prince William traditionally attended the BAFTA awards ceremony. This time, the event was special: guests dressed in black in support of ‘Times Up’ (the Hollywood women’s protest movement against harassment). But according to protocol, royals are not expected to participate in public protests. In order not to violate the rules, the Duchess opted for Jenny Packham’s dark green dress, complementing it with a black sash, which many considered a manifestation of her position. The dress was from the designer’s wedding collection and was originally presented in shades of pearl and sky blue.

7. Alexander McQueen dress

Dresses with open shoulders are taboo for royal women. In order not to break protocol, in 2011, the stylists had to customize, for the duchess, the lilac dress made of loose chiffon from McQueen’s Pronto-a-Vestir collection.

8. Dress by Jenny Packham

9. Alexander McQueen dress

On tour of India 2016 while visiting Taj Mahal, Kate wore a dress from the pre-fall collection of her favorite brand, the aforementioned Alexander McQueen. After customization, the sleeves of the dress were lengthened.

10. Dress by Jenny Packham

In November 2011, Kate wore an asymmetrical dress made to measure and signed by her other favorite designer, Jenny Packham. Especially for the Duchess, the color of the garment was changed from scarlet to silver. The so-called “version for everyone” was shown a few months earlier by Angelina Jolie, at the premiere of the film The Tree of Life.

In your opinion, which of these pieces were more interesting after the transformations? Which ones were better in their original version?
