10+ Things the owner of “Cheems” or Balltze told us, the shiba inu that became one of the most famous memes on the Internet

The virtual world would be a sad place without dog pictures or memes. Luckily, there are characters like “Cheems”, the shiba inu that just sits down to melt the hearts of netizens. First it became a meme capable of saying “cheemsburger” and then, with the muscular Doge, it turned into another equally funny image that shows how things were then and how they are now.

O awesome.club wanted to meet this adorable little dog, but as he can’t exactly talk to “Cheems”, he interviewed Kathy, his owner, to find out what he does in his day to day life and if in reality he’s as big a fan of cheese as he appears.

Kathy, who is a stylist, said that Balltze came into her life by sheer luck. A friend of a friend of hers was leaving Hong Kong and couldn’t take him. After talking to her family, she decided to adopt the puppy. It was her first pet.

Although Kathy’s mother was not a fan of pets, she eventually fell in love with the puppy. Now, she is in charge of Balltze’s routine. “I tried to get him to stay at my house, but from the look in his eyes, I knew he missed my mom so much, so I took him back,” explained the stylist.

“Whenever anyone goes to my mother’s house, the first thing they do is give Balltze a pat, because he runs to the door to say hello. He is a very good little dog,” Kathy said.

Just like anyone with a pet, Kathy often takes pictures of hers, especially when he makes smiling expressions. “This photo I took in 2017 and by chance. It just struck me as funny that Balltze was leaning against the marble step of my old house, watching me with his curious eyes. Maybe he thought, ‘Yes, woman, stop taking pictures of me…’” he recalled.

After years of training or, let’s say, many clicks, the furry is now used to photos. His human said that when the puppy realized that she liked to photograph him, he was calm until it was over.

She also explained that her dog doesn’t need to pose as… it’s always beautifully adorable! So there is no need to do anything else. “At least that’s what I think,” she added. And she is right. Have you seen his face? Awww.

His favorite activity is eating, especially pet cheese.

In June 2019, some Balltze fans started sharing the memes with Kathy. First, she didn’t understand them or didn’t know what to answer (some were very strange). It took a while for her to accept her “memere fame”. Then he had to learn to deal with it.

“I discovered that there were many products with Balltze’s image being sold on the Internet without permission, none were authorized. So I decided to open the official store for people who love Balltze! Some items, such as the ‘100% Good Boi’ T-shirts, the proceeds from their sales will be donated entirely to animal rescue organizations such as LAPHK and HK paws Guardian,” he explained.

Kathy says he sleeps all day probably because he’s older and gets tired easily. When he regains his energy, they take him for a walk in the harbor. On weekends they visit one of the biggest dog parks in West Kowloon.

He is nine and will be ten next month. “We were very excited. I’m not sure Balltze knows what a birthday celebration means, or maybe he doesn’t care too much. Last year, we prepared a dog cake and celebrated with friends and family. We all put on party hats and sang Happy Birthday. He looked very happy with his cake.”

Despite his “memeiro fame”, Balltze often goes unnoticed on the streets. “A lot of people approach him when we go for a walk, but no one knows he’s the star of the memes,” Kathy revealed.

Kathy and her family run the Instagram account, which they opened in 2015 for Balltze. There you can see their adventures and, of course, the photographs they take. There are many. And for a human, any angle is perfect: “Her eyes, so full of love; your fur, so beautiful; your ears, so soft; your movement, so peaceful. I love this whole dog!”
