10 Teachers who marked Brazilian television and missed it

Teachers are part of our personal formation, and much of who we are is thanks to them. Most people have certain teachers who have remained in their memory, but in our memories there are also some TV teachers who won us over with sympathy and good humor. Some of them are stars of comedy shows, others we follow in soap operas and even have a competition judge. But, despite the differences, they all left their mark on Brazilian television.

O awesome.club decided to honor the great teachers of our TV and made a list of some of the most iconic. Just take a look!

1. Professor Raimundo

Professor Raimundo Nonato was created by Chico Anysio in 1952 for a radio program, and he had only three “students”. With him, we got used to hearing the good-humored criticism of the remuneration of the class, with the catchphrase: “and the salary, look!”. In the group he commanded, several hilarious figures have already studied, during his almost 50 years on the air on different stations. After the definitive end, in 2001, we were able to remember the format with several versions and even a remake.

2. Professor Girafales

One of the most beloved teachers for several generations, after all Chaves was shown on TV for many years, in a true infinite loop. Lucky for us! Professor Girafales is Dona Florinda’s great love and commands a class that is not easy, which sometimes drives him crazy. He owns several lovely catchphrases, such as: “I have come to bring you this humble gift”; “Wouldn’t that be too uncomfortable?”; “why, motive, reason or circumstance” and — the classic — “Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah… yeah”. Actor Rubén Aguirre revealed that the idea was to make a vain, cocky and romantic character.

3. Professor Helena

Without a doubt the sweetest teacher on the list. Professor Helena was successful in front of the second grade class at Escola Mundial. She started teaching in January 1989, when Carrossel debuted on Mexican TV with actress Gabriela Rivero, a version that most of us followed in childhood. More recently, in the Brazilian version of the telenovela, it was Rosanne Mulholland’s turn to give life to the beloved teacher.

4. Professor Pasqualete

This was one of the most beloved teachers between the years 1999 and 2005, leaving a lot of nostalgia for those who accompanied him in Malhação. In addition to being a Portuguese teacher, Pasqualete was also the director and owner of Múltipla Escolha. Maybe that’s why he needed to be authoritative with the students. Actor Nuno Leal Maia says that the character was fun but a little rigid. He also revealed that every day, before recording the novel, he needed to shave his head to keep the master’s beautiful bald head.

5. Professor Tiburcio

“Hello, class!”, “Hello, Professor Tibúrcio!”. This is how this weird but adorable teacher started his classes on 90s TV. He would come running towards the screen, wearing a graduation outfit and asking questions to his students, who would answer back in chorus. According to the interpreter Marcelo Tas, the intention was to make a costume similar to the image of a “master owl”, and his inspiration came from the actor Buster Keaton and his parents, both teachers.

6. Professor Pasquale

Pasquale Cipro Neto has worked in newspapers, magazines and radio stations, but he became known even on TV, with the program Nossa Língua Portuguesa, on TV Cultura. He graduated in Letters at the University of São Paulo (USP) and was a Portuguese professor between 1975 and 1998. His difference was the materials he took for analysis in the classroom, such as advertisements, comics and song lyrics, which made him to be invited to teach grammar in the mainstream media. He also made a splash in 1997 by starring in a McDonald’s commercial.

7. Teacher Carolina

A character who filled our hearts with emotion, as she took care as a mother of the internal children of the Raio de Luz orphanage, in Chiquititas. Carol begins the soap opera as a Social Work student and a factory worker, but goes on to work with the orphans and changes their lives forever. In the first version, from 1997, the teacher was played by Flávia Monteiro, who was marked in the memory of children at the time.

8. Professor Utonium

“Sugar, spice and everything good”. After mixing these ingredients and accidentally adding element X to the formula, the scientist became the father of the Powerpuff Girls. As the story goes, he taught quantum physics at the Townsville Research Center and, despite his intelligence, was quite clumsy. Most of his inventions didn’t work out, and the most successful were the accidental discoveries, like the three girls, whom he cared for with a lot of love and dedication.

9. Professor Sérgio Nogueira

Better known as the “Spelling teacher”, where he confirmed the right answer or rang the dreaded bell to signal that it was wrong. Sérgio has a master’s degree in Linguistics from PUC-RJ and for over 50 years has used good humor to teach grammar in various media, in addition to having published more than 10 books on the Portuguese language.

10. Professor Afrânio

Certainly, many people in the 2000s wanted to be his student. After all, Professor Afrânio de Biologia was the coolest and kindest student at Colégio Múltipla Escolha, where he taught until 2007. The character marked the life of actor Charles Paraventi, who counts still being called “professor” on the street. According to him: “Afrânio is a great friend, a very kind person, a teacher that everyone has had, the guy who is well-rounded, lively, upbeat, doesn’t have a bad time with him”.
