10 Simple Ways to Stay Motivated While Working from Home

Who has never dreamed of being able to work at home, avoiding that heavy traffic at lunchtime? rush with overcrowded buses, trains and subways? In recent times, remote work has become a reality for many. However, keeping personal and professional life in the same environment can be more complicated and challenging than we imagine. 1. Get up early (but get quality sleep)

Have you ever felt so tired and unmotivated that you didn’t even want to get out of bed? Do you no longer enjoy doing simple things, like listening to music or watching a movie? To change this, start by establishing a regular wake-up and bedtime routine. Sleeping seven to eight hours a day is ideal for maintaining health. Avoid any distractions before bed, such as cell phones or TV. Maintain a pleasant environment for a peaceful night’s sleep, free from noise and light.

2. Write down your routine

In order not to feel lost during the day, start by planning your routine. Write down the times to wake up and sleep, important tasks, meals, medications you have to take and even those activities that give you pleasure, such as watching a movie, exercising or even having a cup of coffee.

3. Eat healthy

Nothing like having the fridge and pantry very close by, available to be attacked at any time, right? So-so. There is always the risk of “losing your hand” and eating unhealthy food on these getaways at home. 4. If possible, leave windows open for air circulation.

Leaving the windows open promotes air circulation and renewal, preventing the house from having undesirable odors and mold. Also, working in a bright place is essential for our health; after all, we need to use computers and cell phones for long hours. Being in a bright space is less harmful to the eyes – clarity causes the pupil to be less open, thus ensuring our long-term visual health.

5. Keep the environment clean and organized

Have you ever come across a completely messy table, with papers everywhere, food crumbs, drink spills and dust? Doesn’t even make you want to work, right? Therefore, to improve the environment and especially your mental health, before starting tasks, organize the space. Remove the dust from the furniture and unnecessary objects, arrange the papers and, if possible, try to have a plant nearby. All this will help you to be more productive.

6. Stay focused

You’re in a videoconference meeting, and all of a sudden, kids are clamoring for attention, dogs are barking, and noisy neighbors are yelling and pushing furniture all at the same time. What to do when we can’t always run away from such situations? Maintaining focus and discipline is key. Plan activities that keep children busy, such as books and toys that stimulate aspects such as imagination, creativity and fine motor skills. But what to do with the noises that come from outside? Look for a place to work where you can have a little silence, put on ambient music and, if necessary, turn on a fan (which produces the so-called white noise) so that you can muffle the noise caused by your neighbor or the dog barking .

7. Keep your appearance up to date

In the days of face-to-face work, many people used to take care of their appearance, keep their hair and nails up to date and were happy to get ready to go to work. Now, with the home office, many things have changed: care has been left aside and, let’s face it, it’s very comfortable to spend the whole day in pajamas, with messy hair. Studies prove, however, that working wearing pajamas worsens our mental health. So, as soon as you wake up, take a shower, put on your best clothes, put on some perfume and do your makeup and hairdo. This will help you stay focused and productive.

8. Take short breaks

Are you no longer as productive as you were at the start of your remote work period? Can’t interact with the work team and keep the camera off for longer during meetings, in addition to feeling tired that seems to have no end? To avoid this burnout, take breaks every hour for about 10 to 15 minutes. During this time, avoid checking your social media. Give preference to books, movies or series, listen to music that cheers you up, meditate, prepare a snack and drink plenty of fluids. And most importantly: don’t wait for tiredness to arrive to then take a break. Schedule your rest times.

9. Move the body

Staying in the same position for hours causes pain in the body, especially when we don’t have a suitable chair and table. Therefore, if you are going to change furniture to adapt to life at home office, look for chairs with arms. They help rest the forearm, preventing injuries. Also, adjust your computer screen height so your head is straight and keep your hips and knees at a 90 degree angle to avoid lower back pain. Also, stretch frequently, especially before and after using the computer.

10. Relax

Stress causes emotional and physical changes. It is a natural reaction of our organism, which remains in a state of alert for situations of real or imaginary danger (the fear of not being able to deal with the accumulation of tasks with little time for delivery, for example). Signs that indicate that you are stressed: constant headaches, insomnia, irritability with simple things, skin problems, hair loss, increased blood pressure and even some forgetfulness due to lack of focus. To combat this, have leisure time, and if possible, take advantage of the weekends. Do outdoor activities, such as walking for at least 20 minutes or taking your dog for a walk.

Be aware of your mental health, understand what you are feeling and if these symptoms persist, seek medical help.
