10 simple tricks that can end typical problems of Brazilian daily life

That Brazilians are a creative people and are good at everything, many people already know. Even so, new tips are always welcome and can help to improve our daily lives even more. From reinforcing sun protection, to neutralizing the bad smell of the trash can and even removing stains from the lunchbox bowl, there are many things that can still be facilitated in our routine.

O awesome.club loves practical tips and put together a list of some hacks to optimize the lives of Brazilians. Check out!

1. On hot days, prefer clothes that heat up less and protect against UV rays

As our country has a high incidence of sunlight, it is necessary to pay attention to skin protection. Thinking about it, clothing is considered the main blocker of UV radiation, which causes disease. According to research, the fibers and colors that make up the fabrics influence the protection factor and thermal comfort. The best ones for this function are made of polyester with viscose and cotton ones, especially the darker ones. The worst are those made of linen, wool and flannel.

2. Easily repel mosquitoes with homemade recipes

Mosquitoes are part of the routine of a large portion of Brazilians, but it is possible to get rid of them with homemade ingredients.

You can invest in plants that exude aromas that scare away bugs, such as rosemary, geranium, green mint and marigolds.
Also, it is possible to make a trap by placing apple cider vinegar with a few drops of dish soap in a jar.
You can also cut a lemon in half and stick carnations in the bands, placing it in the kitchen and next to the bed.

Remember that the most important thing is to leave the environments clean and the drains closed when you are not using them.

3. The lunchbox can be stain-free and smell-free with simple ingredients.

Soak the bowl in a bleach and water solution for 20 minutes.
You can also leave it immersed in a mixture of vinegar and water for a few hours. Then wash with soap and water.
You can also apply a little sodium bicarbonate on the stains, let it act for 20 minutes and wash normally.
Finally, one more trick, cut a lemon, rub it on the stained area and wait 10 minutes before washing with soap.

4. Avoid directing the fan towards you

In a hot country like ours, the fan is a sure presence in many homes. However, the cold wind (or hot, depending on the climate of the region) generated by it can cause some problems, such as dryness of the mouth and airways, dehydration, intensification of allergies and even cramps. To avoid these frames, try not to direct the air flow directly towards you or try to sleep with the window open. Also, if you are in a dry place, place a wet towel or a bucket of water next to the bed to make the room more humid.

5. It is possible to clean the fan without dismantling it

Speaking of fans, another common situation among Brazilians is to disassemble this device to clean the blades. To make this job much easier, there is a tip given by an Internet user that promises to be very efficient. To do this, mix:

half a spoon of toothpaste; a spoon of detergent; two spoons of white vinegar; 250 ml of water.

Stir well until everything is diluted and pour into a spray bottle. Spray the mixture on the blades of the switched off fan, from the front — with the same grid —, and plug it into the socket. Now, wrap the top part of the device in a plastic bag, and hold the handles behind so it doesn’t come off. After doing this, turn on the fan at full power for about 5 minutes. Finally, remove the bag and remove excess dirt with a dry cloth. According to the images of the owner of the YouTube channel, it looks like magic!

6. You can save and cool down with a homemade air conditioner

An air conditioner can be expensive, as can the energy bill to run it. So, some Brazilians manage it with an improvised and very functional air. Just place a bottle of frozen water — or a container full of ice — in front of the fan on, to get your own cooling system and get out of the heat. And the best, spending little.

7. Removing the smell of garbage can be easier than you think

If you also go through the common situation that occurs in many Brazilian homes, which is that of having odor coming out of the bins, know that there are simple ways to mask that bad smell, just using common materials.

Filling the bottom of the trash can with baking soda, or pouring in a few spoonfuls of the product, will neutralize the odor.
Also, pouring a few drops of eucalyptus oil onto a paper towel and placing it in the wastebasket will both absorb the smell and flavor the container.
If the trash can has already absorbed the bad smell, wash it normally, dry it and then spray white vinegar all over its interior.
Another solution is to use the famous mothballs, which, in addition to scaring away cockroaches, act to neutralize unpleasant odors from the trash can.

8. Knives don’t have to be blunt in your kitchen

If your knives no longer cut even butter and you don’t have a sharpener at home, it is possible to recover the edge using just a box of matches. Slide the cutting edge — from bottom to tip — over the strip on which we scratched the matches. Repeat this operation several times. The process until the knife is sharp takes a while, but it works and you won’t need much for it.

9. Deodorant stains will no longer ruin your clothes

Apply baking soda to the stained area and then add white vinegar. Rub the area well, rinse and wash normally.
Only on white clothes, dilute hydrogen peroxide in a little water and rub on the grimy area. Let it act for a few hours, rinse and wash.
Squeeze a few drops of lemon on the affected area and wait 10 minutes. Afterwards, wash the part with a soft bristle brush and rinse. It is also possible to mix with sodium bicarbonate.

10. Your clothes dry much faster

Especially those who live in an apartment suffer from drying clothes. Many times, we want to use a piece, but it may take a while for it to dry. To speed up this process, you can apply three easy tricks:

Open a dry towel and stretch the wet garment over it. Roll up the towel and wring it out well. Moisture will be absorbed and the fabric will be much drier.
Place a fan in front of the hanging clothes, preferably on a hanger, at a distance of about 20 cm. Then turn it on at maximum power and wait a few minutes, which will depend on the humidity.
Pass the hot wind of a hair dryer over clothes stretched out on a towel or hanging. Circulate throughout the piece and repeat a few times until it gets drier, keeping a distance of approximately 10 cm, so as not to burn the fabric.
