Since the Internet became popular in the 2000s, many bet that it would be the end of television. But they were wrong. With the time we spend in front of small screens, every now and then we come across characters that end up being part of our daily lives, and we are curious to know who is the artist responsible for interpreting them.

Therefore, the awesome.club reveals 10 faces behind Brazilian TV characters, not only to end the mystery, but also as a way of recognizing the admirable work of these artists. Check out!

10. Alvino Batista Soares, known as Sombra, announcer of Programa do Ratinho

Radio host Alvino Batista Soares is rarely recognized on the streets. He is ‘Sombra’, announcer of ‘Programa do Ratinho’, working alongside presenter Carlos Massa for 20 years.

To bring the character to life, Alvino stands behind a paper curtain with a spotlight illuminating him in the background, revealing only his silhouette in profile. With a remarkable voice, Alvino narrates scenes from the program and texts of the subjects presented.

In 2018, presenter Ratinho shared a photo on his Instagram profile alongside Alvino, revealing the identity of ‘Sombra’ to the public. The attitude surprised even the announcer himself, who did not know that the photo would be published.

9. Anderson Clayton, Guinho doll from the Palmirinha program

Anderson Clayton is the interpreter of the puppet ‘Guinho’, who for 15 years was next to the cook Palmirinha Onofre making comments on the recipes prepared by her.

8. Tom Veiga, Louro José from Programa Mais Você

The puppet Louro José transformed the life of former stage coordinator Tom Veiga. Right arm of presenter Ana Maria Braga and with a keen sense of humor, Tom excelled in handling the parrot, remaining in the position since 1997.

Recently, a fact caught the public’s attention: it was when Tom Veiga was moved and made a historic appearance on the program (watch it here), when he showed his hands to applaud the life story of Marcos Rossi, a financial analyst who, even without arms and legs, performs various activities.

7. Eduardo Mascarenhas, the Xaropinho doll from Programa do Ratinho

Another much-loved character on ‘Programa do Ratinho’ is the doll ‘Xaropinho’, who has been by the presenter’s side for 20 years, accompanying him since the days of recording on TV Record.

The character’s success was so great that several products were launched with the Xaropinho brand, including toys, a chocolate drink and musical albums. And in the midst of this humorous atmosphere of ‘Programa do Ratinho’, there is a curiosity: Eduardo Mascarenhas is an evangelical pastor, and even in the church he does not separate himself from Xaropinho, taking him in his sermons.

6. Fernando Gomes voiced Júlio, from Cocoricó

Fernando Gomes, without a doubt, is a master of character manipulation and dubbing. Proof of his skill is that, in the same program, ‘Castelo Rá-Tim-Bum’, Fernando was responsible for giving life and voice to three characters: Gato Pintado, Relógio and Fura-bolos.

5. Marcos Paulo is responsible for Judite, the snake from Balanço Geral SP

The program ‘Balanço Geral SP’, broadcast by TV Record, features a segment called ‘Hora da Venenosa’, which brings news about celebrities, commanded by Fabíola Reipert and Reinaldo Gottino.

The friendly and stylish pink snake called Judite has been part of the attraction since 2014, which gives the painting good laughs. The creator of this character is Marcos Paulo, who has been working at Record for almost 20 years, acting as a comedian and producer of the programs Balanço Geral and Domingo Show.

4. Álvaro Petersen, talking snake from Castelo Rá-Tim-Bum

TV Cultura is a reference in the production of children’s programs that entertain while educating, and many artists, such as Álvaro, feel privileged to be part of this story.

Álvaro was the handler of the snake Celeste and of Godofredo (partner of the monster Mau) in ‘Castelo-Rá-Tim-Bum’.

A super efficient professional, in addition to playing puppets, Álvaro is an architecture teacher, composer, does theater, sings and directs plays. As a musician, he stood out with the album ‘Sibipiruna’ (named after a Brazilian tree), which, in 2014, was nominated for the Latin Grammy in 4 categories.

3. Helio ‘Zis’ Ziskind — Singer and author — Castelo Rá-Tim-Bum and Cocoricó

Helio (or ‘Zis’, as he is called) composed several children’s songs that were easy to learn and very fun, such as ‘Banho é Bom’, played when Ratinho was bathing in one of the attractions at ‘Castelo Rá -Tim-Bum’.

Due to his success with this song, he was sought out in 2002 by the company Johnson & Johnson to create a jingles to be used in advertisements for the Johnson’s Baby product line, and thus a partnership with the brand was born.

Helio wrote more than 100 songs for the program ‘Cocoricó’, and was a music consultant for TV Cultura in São Paulo. He has also received national and international awards, a fair recognition for his musical compositions.

2. Jacira Santos, the “Cuca” of Sítio do Picapau Amarelo

Jacira Santos, art producer at TV Globo, was the ‘body’ of the witch Cuca, a crocodile with female forms who was one of the most comical villains in the series ‘Sítio do Picapau Amarelo’, produced by Globo in the 2000s.

All body expression was up to Jacira, a specialist in puppet manipulation, who commented on the great difficulty faced while she was dressed as Cuca: the heat under the costume, which made her perspire a lot during the recordings.

1. Mônica Rossi, the voice of Priscila from ‘TV Colosso’

While Jacira was Cuca’s ‘body’, Mônica Rossi was the character’s voice actress for 5 years. And the curious thing is that many of the things Cuca said were the result of improvisations by the voice actress, which gave the character more naturalness.

But Mônica and Jacira also did another famous job. On TV Colosso, in the 90s, Jacira was the ‘body’ of the cute female dog of the breed old english sheepdog called Priscila — quite a contrast with the witch Cuca — and Mônica was the voice actress who voiced the character.

Mônica has also shown her talent with dubbing in the cinema, dubbing several actresses such as Demi Moore and Cameron Diaz.
