10 Rami Malek Roles Before Playing Freddie Mercury

1. Pharaoh Ahkmenrah (Night at the Museum🇧🇷

His first role in a film was as part of the cast of the adventure comedy Night at the Museum, in 2006, and its two sequels. The story takes place in the Natural History Museum, where the statues on display mysteriously come to life.

In this production, Rami plays the pharaoh Ahkmenrah who, coincidentally, meets his true Egyptian roots. This pharaoh gets a bigger role in a movie sequel, A Night at the Museum 3: Secret of the Tombwhere it is discovered that an old plaque of Ahkmenrah, belonging to his family, is deteriorating, making the statues aggressive and sowing chaos.

Need for Speed ​​— The Movie, 2014’s movie, inspired by the famous car racing video game, gave Malek the chance to play Finn, a young member of a group of friendly mechanics who split up after Tobey, the shop owner, ends up wrongfully imprisoned.

Finn works at a company as an accountant and appears to be very serious until he rejoins the group, when Tobey is released. The mission is to restore an expensive classic car to pay off the large debt of the repair shop and get revenge on the friend who set the trap.

3. Elliot Alderson (Mr Robot)

One of his most notable roles, for which he gained a large fan following, was that of Elliot Alderson in the series Mr. robotwhich has been broadcast since 2015. Elliot is a young computer security expert who, for various reasons, ends up in a hacker group called fsocietywhose main purpose is to bring down the banking system through the cyberattack on the corporate giant E-Corp.

Elliott is a very smart boy, but he suffers from anxiety issues, identity disorders, and depression. His life unfolds in a dizzying and confusing way, constantly struggling between what is real and what is only in his imagination.

This performance earned Malek a Time Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series.

4. Jonah/Buster (Buster’s Mal Heart🇧🇷

Already consecrated as a star after Mr. robotMalek’s next leading role was in a 2017 independent film, Buster’s Mal Heart🇧🇷 In this production, he plays a lonely man who lives in the mountains and calls local radio shows to talk about conspiracies at the turn of the millennium.

Radio people nicknamed him Buster, but his real name is Jonah, a family man and former hotel worker. Buster suffered psychological problems, which are discovered as the facts about his life before the solitude of the mountains, narrated in parallel.

In this multi-award winning 2013 independent film, Malek puts himself in the shoes of Nate, a college student who enters a residence for vulnerable young people. He is not someone with problems, but, he says, he wants to be in contact with other young people who have problems, and so he enters the house of his own free will. From an upper middle class, Nate feels the need to have a cooperative experience with the residents and there he meets Grace (Brie Larson), the supervisor, a young woman who in addition to taking care of the shelters struggles with her own turbulent past.

8. Merriell “Snafu” Shelton (The Pacific🇧🇷

This miniseries aired in 2010 and takes us into the United States’ intervention in the Pacific War, based on the memories of two Marines. Here, Rami plays Merriel “Snafu” Shelton, a Louisiana-born soldier who is presented as a nervous, poker genius, but also as someone who is easily confused and lost. This scattered personality leads him to make mistakes and discuss any baseless subject, especially when he is drunk or upset.

Rami Malek also participated in the successful and multi-award winning series 24 hours, starring Kiefer Sutherland, which aired from 2001 to 2010. In it, Malek participated as a guest and incarnated Marcos Al-Zacar, a terrorist from the Republic of Kamistan, whose participation lasted 3 episodes. When he is about to detonate a bomb, counter-terrorist agent Jack Bauer (Sutherland) tries to convince him not to, and even takes his mother to talk to him, but the results are not the best.

10. Kenny (The War at Home🇧🇷

His first stable role in a series was that of Kenny in the series The War at Home🇧🇷 The comedy, which ran from 2005 to 2007, follows the experiences of a dysfunctional New York family. Kenny is a young man who is forced to move in with his best friend Larry (one of the protagonists) after telling his parents that he is gay.
