10 Movies with Intriguing Screenplays for Those Who Are Tired of the Same Old Stories

A good film is one that entertains and even excites, but is quickly forgotten. A great movie is one that stays etched in our memory for a long time. Every week many good stories are released in theaters, but in general they are easily forgotten by the public and the critics. Great movies, those that surprise and make us question who we are, have become increasingly rare in recent years.

Today, we want you to check out a list we made with 10 feature films that are surprising for their originality and that are unlike anything you’ve ever seen.

1. The Others (2001)

Nicole Kidman plays a young woman named Grace. She decides to move her two children to an isolated mansion on the island of Jersey while she waits for her husband to return from the war. As their children have a strange disease that prevents them from receiving direct sunlight, the house where they live is always in total darkness. We already have some suspenseful ingredients, but everything gets even more mysterious when employees are hired to work in the house. A film full of mystery and with a surprising ending.

This film is from 2012 and was directed by 3 incredibly talented directors: Tom Tykwer, Lilly Wachowski and Lana Wachowski. There are 6 different stories that unexpectedly intertwine and span a long period, from the 19th to the 24th century. The film shows above all how all our choices, good and bad, always have consequences in the future.

4. The village (2004)

The Village is a thriller starring Joaquin Phoenix and Adrien Brody. The story takes place in a small village in the 19th century where everything seems peaceful. Things change when the villagers discover that the forest surrounding the village hides a race of mysterious and dangerous creatures called “Those We Don’t Talk About”. No one dares to enter the woods, except Lucius Hunt, who has a great desire to push the limits into the unknown. When this happens, some truths are revealed and chaos takes over the village.

5. Run! (2017)

Run! It’s a thriller that also has great moments of humor. The film begins like many others: a young black boy wants to meet his girlfriend’s parents. Apparently, there is no problem, but the situation begins to get complicated and little by little the boy understands the real reason for the invitation. A fun film that deals with the racial issue in a completely unusual and almost subversive way. Impossible to remain indifferent.

When interplanetary beings leave marks on Earth, Dr. Louise Banks, an expert linguist on the subject, is sought after by the military to translate the signals and unravel whether or not the aliens pose a threat. Her job is precisely to translate this new language. The process alters her perception of time and allows her to experience the past, present and future at the same time. But the answer to all the questions and mysteries could threaten Louise’s life and the existence of all humanity.

The ending is very intriguing and is often a full plate for many, many tears.

8. 10 Cloverfield Street (2016)

Waking up after a car accident, the main character, Michelle, finds herself trapped in the basement of a man who claims to have saved her from a chemical weapons attack. He also says that humanity was wiped out by aliens and that outside the shelter the world has become hostile to human life. When she manages to escape, she realizes that everything was true. Get ready to see what Michelle will do next…

9. Faithful Copy (2011)

James Miller is an English philosopher who goes to a small town in Tuscany to present his book on the value of copying in art. There, he meets Elle, a French woman who has owned an art gallery for many years and who lives with her pre-teen son. The 2 decide to pretend to be a couple during a walk through the city and start to develop a complex role-playing game.

10. Gone Girl (2014)

Amy Dunne disappears on her wedding anniversary, leaving her husband Nick in trouble. Her disappearance was so unexpected that it attracted much public attention, as Amy was the inspiration for a series of popular children’s books written by her parents. During the investigation, the police find clues that indicate Nick as the prime suspect. With the support of his twin sister, Margo, Nick tries to prove her innocence and, at the same time, tries to find out what happened to Amy.
