10+ Islands That Are Shaped Like Animals Or Objects And Don’t Look Like This Planet

Nature always presents us with visual wonders through the diversity of shapes, colors, fauna, climates and landscapes. We might even wonder if what we see really belongs on this Planet, for even if it looks like something we see all the time, we can always find something new and fascinating.

On this occasion, the awesome.club made a selection of some islands that, even though they are part of our Planet, their shapes make us think otherwise. Check out!

1. Gallo Lungo Island (Italy) — Dolphin

This dolphin-shaped (or half-moon) island is located in Italy, in the Campania region. It is an archipelago called Li Galli, made up of small islands, including others called La Rotonda and La Castelluccia. This archipelago is also known for Le Sirenuseas some myths tell that the place was guarded by mermaids.

2. Koh Kai (Thailand) — Chicken

In the Andaman Sea, belonging to the city of Krabi, Thailand, is the group of Poda islands, within which is Koh Kai, which is also known as chicken islandbecause its silhouette resembles the head of this animal.

3. Otok Gaz (Croatia) — Fish

This fish-shaped island belongs to the group of Gaz islands, located southwest of Croatia. Its peculiar silhouette inspired the logo of the national park to which it belongs, along with the islands Vrsar, Galija, Obljak, Pusti Otok, among others.

5. Guishan Island (Taiwan) — Turtle

In the Pacific Ocean lies Guishan Island, also known as the Turtle Island🇧🇷 It is the upper part of an active volcano that is submerged and appears over the sea, which makes it look like a huge turtle that occasionally emits fumaroles. It is the only active volcano in Taiwan.

6. Dilumacad Island (Philippines) — Helicopter

Dilumacad Island is located in El Nido, Philippines. This municipality is made up of several islands that are grouped into neighborhoods, and Dilumacad is in Buena Suerte. It stands out for its shape, as from afar it looks like a helicopter. This place is even known for Helicopter Islandand some of the activities that are commonly carried out there are tourism, fishing and diving.

7. Molokini (Hawaii) — Half Moon

Within the Hawaiian archipelago, in Maui County, is this crater submerged in the sea that has the figure of a waning moon and forms an islet. It is a tourist spot where activities such as bird watching, diving and snorkeling are carried out. The islet is also a sanctuary for seabirds and hundreds of aquatic species.

8. Vila Franca do Campo islet (Portugal) — Pizza

Even if it is a summer tourist destination, this Portuguese village has around 11,000 inhabitants. In its center, the islet of Vila Franca has a perfectly circular caldera that complements its shape, making it similar to a pizza. Since 1993 it has been a nature reserve.

10. Lake of the Thousand Islands (China) — Crocodile

Lake Qiandao is located in a reserve in Zhejiang, China, and was formed after the construction of a hydroelectric dam. From a certain angle, one of the islands found within this ecosystem is shaped like a crocodile. This zone stands out for its caviar production and has become very popular for tourism.

11. Manukan, Mamutik and Sulug (Malaysia) — Smile

Manukan Island is responsible for giving shape to that big smile over the sea, accompanied by two islands that look like a pair of eyes and are called Sulug and Mamutik (from left to right). Located in Malaysia, they are famous because they form a happy face.

12. Palm Island Jumeirah (Dubai) — Palm Tree

This curious island is part of the project of three artificial islands in Dubai, and is known for its resemblance to a date palm. It has 17 “leaves”, a trunk and a circular “breaker” which is also an island. Its use is mainly for taking vacations and leisure activities, as well as residential.

13. Saint Mary’s (UK) — Bonsai

This is one of the Sorlinga Islands found in the Celtic Sea. It forms part of the British Isles archipelago and is known for its bonsai shape. It is inhabited, despite being visited for tourist purposes, and even has its own airport.
