10 healthy living rules that no longer apply

Apparently, some basic concepts about a healthy lifestyle have become ingrained in many people’s minds. So, when we step on the scale and it shows a weight higher than what we are used to, we immediately start thinking about a list of norms and rules that would have the capacity to make us go back to the old way: running in the morning, always having meals in the same time, give up sweets and drink lots of water. But does this really work?

O awesome.club brings you 10 rules that are considered healthy, but that we should all rethink.

10. Sleep 8 hours a day

Studies carried out by the North American Academy of Sleep Medicine have proven that, for a person’s body to function fully and actively, 7 hours of sleep is enough. It’s enough time for our body to regain strength and be ready for the next day. Remembering that each organism reacts in a way and some people live very well sleeping only 6 hours a day.

9. Breakfast should be hearty

The amount and type of food we eat for breakfast should depend on individual characteristics, as meals only bring benefits when we are really hungry. Therefore, if you are not hungry in the morning, do not torment yourself with this. It’s better to just drink a glass of water or a cup of coffee.

8. Run in the morning

Running is healthy, whether it’s morning or afternoon. But if, on a given day, you feel without strength, desire or time, you don’t need to try so hard.

7. Give up sweets

6. Exercise until you feel pain

“If you don’t feel any pain in the morning, it’s because you didn’t train right”, they say. But actually, muscle pain appears when the body’s effort was exaggerated. Also, the feeling of pain in the muscles can indicate a muscle tissue injury. In such cases, it is better to avoid the exercises until full recovery.

5. Do not drink water with food

Water is essential for the normal functioning of the digestive system. When there is not enough liquid, the stomach takes it from saliva. Therefore, you can and should drink water, but in small quantities. Thus, you facilitate the work of the stomach and digestion happens faster.

4. Always eat at the same times

If you’re not hungry, you don’t have to shove food in just because it’s time. The main rule is to eat only when you feel hungry. Your body will alert you about the best time to have lunch or dinner, for example. Regarding quantity, it is better to divide the volume of food needed into 5 or 6 daily meals.

3. Brush your teeth after every meal

2. Do not consume flour

Bread is rich in dietary fiber which eliminates cholesterol and bile acids from the body. It is also important for the proper functioning of the digestive system. Naturally, this does not mean that you should overdo it: 200 grams a day is enough.

1. Drink 2 liters of water a day

The amount of water ingested should be adequate to your weight: 30 milliliters per kilogram. But the calculation needs to take into account the climate, humidity and water loss that affects those who practice sports.

To keep the water level in balance, you can drink tea, coffee, juices and other drinks in addition to the water itself. A good way to track whether or not you are well hydrated is to look at the color of your urine; it should be light yellow; neither too yellow (meaning you’re super hydrated) nor too colorless – which indicates excess water.
