10 Habits That Can Make Your House Messy and Overwhelmed

According to a survey carried out by the furniture company Joybird, the living room, kitchen and bedroom are the spaces that we usually neglect the most in our own home. It’s really nice to feel that the house is clean and tidy, but sometimes the day to day gets too busy and we make some mistakes that, although small, make the mess appear.

With that in mind, today awesome.club presents some errors that leave our house full of unnecessary things and also brings some tips on what to do to prevent this from happening.

1. Confusing cleanliness with organization

It is very common to confuse cleaning with tidying, after all, a clean space is not always tidy. That is, always try to find the right place for each object; that way, you avoid the accumulation of unnecessary things and help to eliminate the risk of your house becoming a big mess.

2. Don’t leave things close to where we’re really going to use them

One thing that commonly happens that increases clutter is placing objects far away from where they are supposed to be. This is not functional at all. Why leave a shoe in the living room if we normally wear it in the bedroom? It’s best to always think about functionality and store objects where we actually use them most often, to avoid any unnecessary clutter.

3. Not distinguishing mess from clutter

It can often be confusing to identify whether an object is just part of a larger clutter or something that can be disposed of, or donated. For this, it is important to understand the time of use and the usefulness of the product. For example, old clothes and toys from when we were kids can usually be donated, while other objects, like old school notebooks, can be thrown away (but of course everyone knows the sentimental value of their own things).

4. Neglecting the Garage

It is very common for the garage to become a large warehouse where we keep much more than the car. In general, we leave in it many objects that we no longer use and that is why it always has a cluttered look. In this sense, it is important to observe the available space and analyze well what is really needed and what can already be moved forward.

5. Decorate the walls too much

Decorating the walls can be an attractive idea and a way to bring life to a home. However, when we overload them with frames, photos and shelves, the space can feel saturated. An attractive and prominent element is usually enough to give a unique touch to environments.

6. Using the refrigerator as an information service

Placing notes and notices on the fridge is very common, as well as pasting small decorative objects. However, in addition to not guaranteeing that these messages will actually be seen, as magnets and/or calendars accumulate, the space becomes overloaded with unnecessary information and old notes.

In this sense, it is better to choose a specific place in the house to leave pending messages or bills, and eliminate them when they are no longer needed. And of course, be careful not to abuse the fridge magnets.

7. Things piled up

8. Accumulating objects in the kitchen

The kitchen is one of the central spaces in the house, so it is very important that it is always clean and tidy. Many people have the habit of accumulating objects in the sink, which makes everyday life and the work that needs to be carried out difficult.

9. Overcrowding cabinets and drawers

Cabinets and drawers are essential components when it comes to keeping a house in order, as they store the things we use in our daily lives. Leaving them untidy, with clothes left unfolded, can be very counterproductive when thinking about everyday organization.

Always putting things in their proper places and keeping everyday clothes close at hand (such as work or school uniforms) are good options for creating a tidier and more functional space.

10. Accumulating things by the bed

When you get home after a tiring day at work, it’s normal to leave things messy by the bed. However, laziness in this moment of tiredness can overwhelm our routine up front and make the room increasingly messy. It is best to keep everything in its proper place, to avoid further regrets in the future.
