10 Connections between Cobra Kai and Karate Kid that we found in the series

Cobra Kai is a worldwide hit series that follows the events of the Karate Kid franchise. More than three decades after the first film in the franchise, the series rescues the universe that was very successful here in Brazil, including its films being considered “classics of the afternoon session”.
By continuing the story of the characters in the films, the series ends up rescuing actors, settings and everything else from the past. With that, nostalgia hit hard in the hearts of fans who did not fail to notice a series of movie references in Cobra Kai episodes.

We, from awesome.club, We’ve listed some references that will give you one more reason to honor this work and even rewatch the films of the Karate Kid franchise to compare with Cobra Kai. In the end, there’s still a bonus waiting for you.

1. Skeleton Costume

A turning point in Daniel San’s life and one of the highlights of the Karate Kid movie happens on the day of Halloween when Johnny Lawrence and his Cobra Kai friends are wearing the skeleton costume. In episode 3 of the first season of the series, therefore, we see Miguel wearing Johnny’s old costume, drawing a possible great parallel between the two productions.

2. Mr. Miyagi

3. The soundtrack by Terry Silver

When this man appears from the back playing the piano, many people don’t know who he is.
However, when listening to the soundtrack that is played on the piano, many fans immediately identify the villain from Karate Kid 3 who plays his own soundtrack from the film. Therefore, it is assumed that it is the same character.

4. Robby plays with the little oriental drum

Robby plays with the oriental drum that makes reference to the “drum technique” used in Karate Kid 2 in Okinawa and that marks, especially, through the sound made by the entire audience, the final fight between Daniel San and Chozen. It’s impossible to look at that little drum and not remember that fight.

5. Breaking the ice

Daniel’s karate demonstration is a clear reference to the challenge he accepted in Karate Kid 2 in which, in response to a bet, he smashes bars of ice with his fist. Daniel’s great victory in the challenge is remembered in the presentation of the Miyiagi-Do dojo and the blow impresses the audience.

6. The “heron kick”

At various times the series uses blows as references. Like what is perhaps one of the most iconic moves: Johnny and Miguel preparing to use the “Chute da Garça” that Daniel used to defeat Johnny in one of the emblematic scenes of the plot.

7. Falcon disqualified

8. Mr. Medal of Honor Miyagi

The Medal of Honor that Mr. Miyagi won during the war that appears in Karate Kid 2 can be seen in the second season of Cobra Kai when Robby takes a look at the objects that Daniel Larusso keeps in his Dojo.

9. Nose honk

At the end of a fight between Chozen and Daniel Larusso, Chozen got revenge on Daniel by playing the same horn nose prank Daniel did on him, saving him from “fighting to the death” in Karate Kid 2.

10. Cobra Kai Reunion

Considered by many to be the most emotional of the series, episode 6 of season 2 of Cobra Kai is marked by the reunion of former students of the Cobra Kai dojo and is a celebration of old times.

Bonus: Cobra Kai Never Dies

And to end this small but valuable list of references that we highlight from this series so loved by the fans, we could not fail to mention the delivery of the actor Rob Garrison who plays Tommy, Johnny’s best friend and who reappears in the emotional episode 6 of the 2nd season . Tommy is reliving old times and at the end of the day they sit by the firelight and reminisce about past stories. Tommy has health problems and even so he doesn’t lose his smile or his inner light, showing gratitude for everything he’s going through.

What many don’t know is that greater than the parallel of the series with the movies can be the parallel with reality. The actor (Rob), in real life, while filming, was also having health problems, but he was able to revive his character and reunite with friends after so long. His character dies and receives a dignified farewell. A month after filming, actor Rob Garrison died, but the message left at the end of the episode in his honor and Cobra Kai’s motto is very simple: “Snake Kai Never Dies”🇧🇷
