When it comes to hair care, it’s a known fact that what works for your friend may be completely different than what works for you. But there are some universal things that we do on a daily or occasional basis that spoil our hair. That’s why many of us notice that even when we’ve checked everything off our hair care list, something is still off.

We, from awesome.club, We’ve put together a list of things you should avoid at all costs to achieve the perfect, healthy hair we all strive for.

1. You don’t cut your hair regularly

Even if you’re struggling to grow your hair out, you’ll still need a proper trimming schedule. Trimming your hair regularly gives it a healthy look, makes it look thicker, and is great for growth because you get rid of the damaged parts. You don’t need to cut your hair very often, half an inch of hair every 12 weeks will make a big difference, according to hair experts.

2. Do not use conditioner

Conditioning is part of the hair washing routine. Using a conditioner is essential because it softens the hair and helps restore the oil production balance that may have been thrown off by using shampoos and other products. While conditioner is usually used right after shampooing, applying it beforehand is said to make your hair look more voluminous.

3. Insufficient water consumption

4. Using very aggressive products

Before using any product on your hair, you need to be aware of its components. There are some ingredients that you definitely need to avoid, such as those based on silicone and alcohol, which can be the real cause of hair damage. Remember, the important thing is to treat your hair with care and use what works best for your hair.

5. Brush your hair too often

Just like any hair care practice, brushing your hair needs to be done correctly. Brushing your hair is known to help in stimulating the scalp and automatically hair growth, but experts have found that brushing too much can lead to hair loss. That’s why they recommend brushing your hair twice a day — morning and night.

6. Sleep with damp hair

It’s very likely that you got out of the shower so tired that you ended up sleeping with damp hair, many of us have certainly done that. But it’s no surprise that it’s a harmful habit because hair is more fragile when it’s wet, so it’s more prone to damage. Also, the stuffiness created by the heat of the head and prolonged humidity can breed bacteria that cause dandruff.

7. Frequently use heated equipment for styling

Changing your hairstyle is tempting, so it’s hard to stop using equipment that emits heat (dryers, flat irons or curling irons). However, to maintain healthy hair, we can reduce the number of times we use heat. The wrong water temperature can be very harmful to your hair because there is a specific temperature that needs to be used in each step. On the other hand, remove the conditioner with cold water as it closes the cuticles and seals the moisture in the hair.

9. Insufficient protein consumption

A good source of protein is also good for the hair, so it’s important to be mindful of what we eat if we want long, strong and shiny hair. Apparently, hair is made of protein, so any protein-based foods like eggs will make your hair even stronger and healthier.

10. Do not use hot oil treatments

One piece of advice we received from our mothers and grandmothers was to use hair oils. They are very beneficial for the hair, just find the oils made for our hair type/texture. One thing we know for sure is that it’s the best way to protect and nourish dry, brittle hair. You can do it at home or choose to have an oil treatment done at the salon, just make sure you do it right and your hair will thank you.
