10 Brazilian actors who have been shining on screen for over 30 years and we haven’t even noticed

Despite the ageism that has plagued the television industries and, by extension, those who work in them, there is still a diverse group of actors who prove that it is possible to have a long and prolific career on the small screen.

No matter which soap they started acting on, these professionals have the power to endure decades in a very tough industry. They are still highly regarded by fans and professional peers alike, and continue to take on challenging and impressive roles on both the small and big screens.

To illustrate this, we awesome.club, we chose 10 Brazilian actors who have been shining on our small screens for over 30 years and we didn’t even notice. They keep doing what they love, no matter their age. Check out!

1. Selton Mello

At just 8 years old, Selton began his career as an actor in the series Dona Santa, shown on Rede Bandeirantes, playing Sidney, one of the central characters of the plot. He continued to participate in telenovelas, but also found great success on the big screen, pursuing comic roles, in films such as O Que É Isso, Companheiro?, O Auto da Compadecida, Meu Nome Não é Johnny, A Mulher Invisível, among others.

2. Gloria Pires

Glória won her first role on TV in 1972, in the soap opera Selva de Pedra, at the age of 8. After that, she participated in the comedy programs Chico City, Satiricom and Make Humor, Don’t Make War. However, it was only in 1978 that the actress had her first remarkable role in Dancin’ Days, as the spoiled Marisa, which earned her the award for revelation actress by the São Paulo Association of Art Critics (APCA).

Since then, Glória has engaged in several soap operas, with memorable characters, namely: Louco Amor, Vale Tudo, O Dono do Mundo, Paraíso Tropical, Insensato Coração and Babilônia.

3. Danton Mello

The first time on the small screen was at the age of 10, when Danton played little Cuca, in A Gata Comeu. But it was when he played the character Héricles, in the first season of the youth soap opera Malhação, in 1995, that the actor caught the attention of the Brazilian public.

He continued to excel in other work. Some of them are: Hilda Furacão, Torre de Babel, Cabocla, Sinhá Moça, Caminho das Índias, I Love Paraisópolis.

4. Rodrigo Faro

Rodrigo Faro’s story as a presenter began at the age of 14, when he was one of the presenters of the children’s program ZYB Bom on TV Bandeirantes. A few years later, Brazilians began to follow him as a member of the group Dominó. In the following years, he debuted as an actor in 1996, in the soap opera Antônio Alves, Taxista, and then participated in several soap operas, such as A Indomada, Malhação, A Padroeira and Chocolate com Pimenta.

Since 2018, Rodrigo has decided to return to work as a presenter on his own program, Melhor do Brasil, and since 2014, on Hora do Faro.

5. Leandra Leal

His first small appearance on TV was in the soap opera Pantanal, in which his mother worked. But it was in the youth series Confissões de Jovens, in 1995, playing Mariana, that marked her debut as an actress. That same year, Leandra was in Explode Coração. Recognition, both nationally and internationally, came after starring in the Brazilian film A Ostra e o Vento (1997), and winning several awards such as Best Actress and Best New Actress.

His career accounts for hits such as A Indomada, Pecado Capital, O Cravo e a Rosa, A Muralha, Senhora do Destino, Páginas da Vida, Império, Babilônia, Justiça, and much more.

6. Leticia Spiller

For 3 years, Leticia shone as Xuxa Meneghel’s paquita on TV Globo. Only after that did she decide to follow her dream as an actress, and soon found success in her debut with the character Babalu, one of the highlights of the telenovela Quatro por Quatro, in 1994.

Since then, he continued to stand out in O Rei do Gado, Suave Veneno, Senhora do Destino, Amazônia, Duas Caras, Viver a Vida, Salve Jorge, Joia Rara, O Sétimo Guardião.

7. Fábio Assunção

At the age of 19, Fábio started with everything on TV when he got a role in Globo’s eight o’clock soap opera, Meu Bem, Meu Mal. His works on the small screen continued expressive, becoming one of the favorite actors of the public.

He was in Vamp, De Corpo e Alma, Sonho Meu, O Rei do Gado, for which he was twice nominated for the Press Trophy, in the Best Actor category, for his portrayal of Marcos Mezenga. He also participated in the telenovelas Por Amor, Celebridade and Totalmente Demais.

8. Deborah Secco

She became known at age 11, in the soap opera Mico Preto (1990), but it was only four years later that Deborah Secco became a more regular face on TV, playing the character Carol, in Confissões de Jovens. After leaving the series, came the long-awaited eight o’clock soap opera, A Próxima Vítima.

Later, several other works followed: Laços de Família, O Beijo do Vampiro, Celebridade, América, A Favorita, Insensato Coração, Segundo Sol and Salve-se Quem Puder.

9. Lilia Cabral

It was in 1984, in the soap opera Corpo a Corpo, that Lília first showed her potential as an actress to the Brazilian public. His first prominent role was in Vale Tudo, but soon after came more successes such as Tieta, Malhação, Laços de Família, Estrela-Guia, Sabor da Paixão, Chocolate com Pimenta, A Favorita, A Força do Querer, O Sétimo Guardião, and so on…

In 2006, she was the antagonist Marta Toledo Flores, in Páginas da Vida, and her interpretation received the Press Trophy for Best Actress that year, also being nominated for the 2007 International Emmy, in the category of Best Actress.

10. Caio Blat

Finally, we chose Caio Blat, who began his career as an actor in the telenovela Éramos Seis, and continued to prove his talent in the telenovelas As Pupilas do Senhor Rector and Fascinação. In 1999, he became the sensation of young people in Andando nas Nuvens, and soon after he gave life to his first villain in Esplendor.

His first protagonist was in Um Anjo Caiu do Céu, and since then we continue to see him on the small screen in notable productions, such as Cor do Pecado, Caminho das Índias, Joia Rara, Império, Liberdade, Liberdade.
