The film adaptation of Frank Herbert’s 1965 science fiction novel was one of the most anticipated premieres of 2021. The film tells the story of intergalactic intrigues. The budget for the production, which grossed over $390 million at the worldwide box office, was around $165 million. The producers have already announced the sequel: Dune: Part 2 will be released in the fall of 2023.

The story, which in 2017 already won a feature film, had a second chance due to a failed start. The director of the first project, Zack Snyder, took a break from filming due to a family tragedy and production was completed by Joss Whedon. 2017’s Justice League was coldly received by audiences and critics alike, so when Snyder was able to get back to work, he was asked to carry out his original idea. The 2021 version appears in 4th place in the ranking of the most watched on the HBO Max platform.

No Time to Die is the 25th film adaptation of the James Bond adventures and the last to feature Daniel Craig in the lead role. The cast includes the participation of Léa Seydoux, Ben Whishaw, Naomie Harris and Rami Malek. The feature grossed more than 771 million dollars worldwide and ranks 3rd on the list of highest grossing 2021. By the way, the theme song of the film was written by Billie Eilish.

The film is inspired by Eric Jager’s book, The Last Duel: A True Story of Crime, Scandal and Trial by Combat in Medieval France. The protagonists are played by two best friends in real life — Matt Damon and Ben Affleck. Alongside them acted Adam Driver and Jodie Comer. By the way, this isn’t the first time Affleck and Damon have worked together. They were colleagues on the sets of Good Will Hunting (1997) and The Girl in the Eyes (2004).

At the center of the plot is the story of an alien race that, after thousands of years, came out of hiding to protect Earth from its ancient enemies, the Deviants. Out of all 26 films inspired by Marvel comics, Eternals received the lowest audience rating.

In addition to Eternals, in which the actress played one of the main roles, the list of failed films of 2021 includes two more of her projects: Bliss: In Pursuit of Happyness and Double Explosive 2: And the First Lady of Crime. The latter, in addition to Salma Hayek, starred Ryan Reynolds, Samuel L. Jackson, Morgan Freeman and Antonio Banderas. In the opinion of the public, the film is full of clichés. However, despite the frustrating start, the producers do not rule out the possibility of a sequel.
