Nearly 2,000 years ago, people paid to use the bathroom in some countries. Here in Brazil (and elsewhere in the world) public restrooms are free, but they are a little different from regular restrooms. And we’re not just talking about a lack of privacy. They have a special detail that catches everyone’s attention: the cabin doors don’t touch the ground. And believe it or not, there is an explanation.
We, from awesome.club, we’ve always wondered why public restrooms don’t have doors that go all the way down to the floor. And we found that there are many reasons for this, which are quite serious and which we must take into account. We also learned why we pull the door to get out of the bathroom (and not push it), which we’ll explain in our bonus section of this post.
1. Is it possible to see if someone needs medical help
2. You can see if it is empty
3. It’s easier to get rid of cubicle smells
4. It is more expensive to have doors to the floor
5. It is a way to stop people from behaving in a negative or offensive way
6. Is it possible to exit if the latch is stuck
7. Is it possible to ask someone for toilet paper if you don’t have one?
8. It’s a way to make people spend less time in the bathroom and the queue moves faster
9. It’s a way to make cleaning easier
10. It is a way of not accumulating water, in case there is a problem with the plumbing
Bonus: Why do we need to pull the door to get out of the bathroom?
To avoid hurting anyone while opening the door;
To prevent someone from blocking the corridor and allow people to move freely in an emergency;
To prevent the bad smell from spreading throughout the bathroom;
To prevent a person from being locked in and to make it easier to close the door if the lock is broken.
And why do we push the door when we enter the bathroom?
Have you ever noticed that bathrooms don’t have doors that go all the way down to the floor? Does it make you uncomfortable or are you used to it?
