We reveal the faces behind 10+ most famous male voices on Brazilian television

Published in March 2020, the study “Inside TV”, by Kantar Ibope Media, pointed out that there has been an increase, in the last five years, in the time Brazilians spend in front of TV. But it’s not today that the television is one of the most beloved appliances in our home. Whatever content we watch, we often get used to certain voices that come up during commercial breaks, or to announce when our favorite show will air. And if you’ve ever been curious to know who owns these voices, today is your lucky day, because that’s what we’ll reveal next.

We already made a very interesting post here showing the faces behind the most famous female voices in Brazil.

O awesome.club became more interested in this topic and shares the identity of 10 speakers; most of them rarely appear on camera. And in the end, a bonus full of nostalgia in which the appearance of a famous (and longing) speaker will be revealed. Follow up!

10. Robson Alencar, Rede Globo (sport)

It is the “commercial” voice of Rede Globo’s sporting events. Among her narrations, the most outstanding are “Carnival Globeleza”, “Football…, offering…”, “Formula 1”, “Olympics” and “World Cup”. Passionate about voice-overs, he began his career as an announcer in 1977 in the city of Teresópolis (Rio de Janeiro). In 1982, he joined the Globo Radio System, to replace none other, none other, than Dirceu Rabelo, the main voice of Rede Globo’s calls. He applied and got the job as a TV announcer at the aforementioned station, a position he has held for over 30 years. In addition to TV, Robson continues with his radio work. Currently, he is present on Rádio Catedral, a religious radio station. In the following video, Robson lends his voice to a football vignette on Rede Globo.

9. Dirceu Rabelo, Rede Globo

Dirceu Rabelo is one of the best-known names when it comes to television broadcasters. An inspiration for many professionals in his segment, he has been working since the 1970s announcing Rede Globo’s programming. Over the years, viewers have become accustomed to hearing Dirceu’s voice in movie calls, soap operas and programs (check out, in the video below, a sample of his work). He was branded with his jargon in the Afternoon sessionone of them being the famous “a heavy-handed crowd gets into big trouble”. Today, at the age of 75, he continues to act as an announcer on Rede Globo, but he is not the only voice; he shares the work with other professionals, including Mabel Cezar, mentioned in another post we’ve already done here🇧🇷 In the photo above, Dirceu appears next to his friend, presenter Celso Portiolli.

His first steps as a communicator were on the radio, where he worked as a soundman and speaker. But it was on TV that Carlos saw his career take off. Since 1984, he has been part of the “team of voices” at SBT. And, little by little, he conquered his space until he reached the position of standard voice in the station. For Carlos, SBT has its own style for making programming calls, which gives him the freedom to interpret each one of them. In the videos below, we can see the differences between Carlos’ locutions for a Mexican soap opera (dramatic) and for a Brazilian soap opera (relaxed).

7. Marcelo Marcondes, Tele Sena

Over the years, he has shared this role with other broadcasters. Currently, he is the “only voice”. Furthermore, he serves as an anchor for the news channel BandNews TV.

In the video below, there is an example of a speech made by Nelson that was used to announce the news on TV Bandeirantes programming.

5. Alfredo Alves, TV Cultura

Aiming to become a professional broadcaster, he began his activities on the radio in 1969 in the city of Franca (São Paulo). After stints on several radio stations, Alfredo left for the capital, São Paulo, to join the Cultura FM radio station, where he remains to this day, presenting programs focused on classical music. Parallel to this work, Alfredo was invited to narrate TV Cultura’s calls. He was branded with the catchphrase “nine-thirty at night”. 3. Phil Miller, AXN

Despite the foreign name, Phil Miler is Brazilian and is divided into two professions: speaker and actor. In addition to being the voice for several commercials, he has also acted in some. In the early 2000s, Miler stood out by playing the character “São Never” in a Ford campaign. On open TV, one of his works was as one of the voices of Grupo Bandeirantes, working alongside other announcers, such as Nelson Gomes, mentioned earlier. Among the voiceovers that Phil made for AXN, we selected this one, from the video below. It is a programming call that includes an American series in which he participated as an actor, the Scorpion🇧🇷

In his 37-year career, he has collected several works in the area of voice-overs. Does he remember MasterCard’s “Priceless” campaign? For many years, Edinho gave voice to advertisements whose slogan remains alive to this day. In another remarkable locution, it informs Sky customers about the content of the channels. And continuing the work for the group, for 4 years he has been the owner of the voice behind many of the Fox channel programming calls. 1. Carlos Tureta, Cartoon Network

Many people think that the voice that narrates most of Cartoon Network’s amusing vignettes is computerized, but it’s not. The person responsible for it is the Brazilian announcer Carlos Tureta, who has worked there since the channel’s launch in 1993. Coming from the radio and used to speaking quickly, he brought this experience to TV and, on Cartoon Network in Brazil, implemented a style of very characteristic narration (as shown in the video below), which was not tied to the model that was already used by the channel in the United States. Currently, in addition to his work as an announcer, he is dedicated to other projects, including as production director of animated series for Cartoon Network.

Bonus: Lombardi

He dreamed of being a football announcer, but plans changed and took him away from the sports world. Passionate about radio and TV, he achieved national recognition by announcing products and paintings in Silvio Santos Program of the homonymous presenter, from SBT. Over the years, the number of times the presenter said: “It’s up to you, Lombardi…” has been lost; and behold, a loud voice answered: “Hi, Silvio”. A popular character was created there, whose appearance was unknown to the general public.

In front of the cameras, the friendship between Silvio Santos and Lombardi was notorious, a partnership that lasted for more than 40 years and ended in 2009, the year of the speaker’s death. See below, a video in which Silvio Santos has fun with Lombardi during an advertisement.

Have you ever seen on camera or in person any of these announcers mentioned in the post? Are you curious to discover the owners of other voices? Share with us in the comments. Maybe we can make a “version 2” with your suggestion? 🇧🇷
