We asked a psychologist to analyze the relationship of 12 cartoon couples and find out if they will live happily ever after.

Almost every fairy tale or cartoon ends with the famous phrase: “And they lived happily ever after”. However, when we watch these stories as adults, the main characters’ relationship doesn’t seem so perfect anymore. If we look objectively at these relationships, we can see that not all of these marriages will be lasting, and that love can end in a few years.

My name is Valeria and especially for the awesome.club, I decided to analyze the relationships of famous cartoon couples loved by many viewers. In this post, I tried to identify what the protagonists of the story are really capable of giving each other and, based on that, predict if these couples will really be happily ever after. Follow up!

Anna and Kristoff — Frozen

Anna: is the princess of a small kingdom from this fairy tale. She is cheerful, funny, responsible and always ready to help others. In the first film, the character’s naivete puts her family at risk. However, Anna survives the blows of fate and learns from her mistakes. And even with the events of the second film, nothing broke the spirit of the young heroine. She is ready to do anything to help people.

Kristoff: a simple but kind guy and a true nature lover. Rude-looking, Kristoff is really strong, honest and faithful. He spent most of his life not interacting with people, so he became an individualist, therefore, he prefers to act alone. He can also be a little grumpy, lazy and sometimes selfish, but behind all these little flaws is a heart of gold.

The relationship: Kristoff will always be a solid support for Anna. Yes, he will not be able to get involved in state affairs, but emotional support and support from a loved one will help the girl in difficult times. Anna, in turn, will guide and inspire Kristoff.

Prediction: they will live happily ever after.

Rapunzel and Flynn Ryder — Tangled

Rapunzel: a princess who was stolen by an evil sorceress; with hair that possesses a magical gift. She is good-natured and cheerful, despite having spent her entire life locked away and her interaction with the outside world extremely limited. The only person she communicated with was her foster mother. Rapunzel is really a fabulous character. In real life, an average person would end up acquiring some socialization disorder and even Stockholm Syndrome.

Flynn Ryder: thief, liar and charming. Flynn could be defined as a rogue adventurer. But, as shown in the film, his lifestyle has a reason – a dream. And Rapunzel’s innocence and naivete is the way for this charming thief to fulfill his dream. However, in the end, Flynn obeys his heart’s call and changes his attitude.

The relationship: they’ve already proven that they can sacrifice a lot for each other. And even if the dreams of both have already come true and a simple and happy life awaits them, that doesn’t mean that the marriage will be boring. They will find a new dream or goal, and together they will achieve it.

Prediction: they will live happily ever after.

Tiana and Naveen — The Princess and the Frog

Tiana: a girl who has a dream. Nothing can break her resolve. Tiana is ready to work hard because she understands that all this is to improve her quality of life and fulfill her dream of having a restaurant.

Naveen: is a lazy and bohemian prince. He doesn’t understand the value of life. And while his relationship with Tiana is eye-opening, he’s unlikely to truly understand that not everything can be solved by influence, money or witchcraft.

The relationship: more likely the relationship will fall apart. Naveen will soon get tired of being with a businesswoman. And Tiana is too centered and responsible to fall for her husband’s adventures. The two are quite different, and when love fades, they are unlikely to find support in each other.

Prediction: in a few years they will separate, and probably by mutual agreement.

Astrid and Hiccup — How to Train Your Dragon

Astrid: a brave, intelligent, responsible and dedicated warrior, who nevertheless managed to reconsider her point of view towards dragons when they became an integral part of Berk society. Astrid is Hiccup’s most loyal supporter, she supports him in everything. Valka, Hiccup’s mother, believes that Astrid is the only one who can truly understand her son.

Hiccup: an underrated son who is always looking for his father’s approval, who doesn’t care about the fantasies and technical innovations created by the young man. Throughout the story, Hiccup tries to solve problems any way he can. Not everyone understands and appreciates your unconventional ideas. But this doesn’t bother him, on the contrary, it encourages him to act, making him successfully cope with the tasks and responsibility of a leader.

The relationship: they discovered the world of dragons and new dangers. Hiccup is a dreamer, but he manages to achieve his goals. Astrid is steadfast, and her support and faith in her husband will help them get through all the trials together.

Prediction: they will live happily ever after.

Cinderella and the Prince — Cinderella

Cinderella: is hardworking and patient. She believes that all problems and difficulties will eventually go away on their own—and that, perhaps, is not the best approach to problem solving. But a fairy tale is a fairy tale and, thanks to good and magical circumstances, it all worked out quite successfully for Cinderella.

The prince: is pampered and distracted. Had it not been for the lost glass slipper, it is unknown how he would have found and identified his beloved. Although the Prince has gone to great lengths to find Cinderella, he is the typical royal who wants it all at once.

The relationship: arguably they don’t fit. The Prince is very impulsive and impatient, so problems in the relationship will tend to be ignored rather than resolved. Cinderella is too passive to question the couple’s domestic problems, so she will tend to expect that everything will work itself out.

Prediction: there will definitely be problems in the marriage, so Cinderella will shut down, and the fairy godmother won’t be able to help at all. The Prince will probably find a mistress and perhaps even ask for a divorce.

Alva and Jesper — Klaus

Alva: at first, it is quite hostile and gloomy, and its only wish is to get off the island as quickly as possible. All because her dream is to be a teacher, but due to the mentality of the local population, this is not possible. After meeting Jesper, Alva gradually restores her emotional balance, and little by little her dream comes true, which restores her zest for life.

Jesper: he is spoiled from childhood, capitalist and selfish. As events unfold, we see that Jesper is capable of being empathetic, he has a sharp mind, is surprisingly enterprising, and is not shy about showing real emotions. Of course, this kind of transformation in real life would be highly unlikely.

The relationship: they changed each other for the better. A rare case where two lost people were able to transform just out of love.

Prediction: they will live happily ever after.

Ariel and Eric — The Little Mermaid

Ariel: sincere and naive, she doesn’t usually reflect well on the consequences of her actions. She is very impulsive: she fell in love with the prince, and decided that he was the one she should be with, totally ignoring the consequences for her father, her subjects and her kingdom — all of which were secondary to little Ariel. In real life, such an impulsive person would not live very long.

Eric: you are a natural adventurer, especially if your adventures match the desires of your restless heart. He’s not one of the brightest minds, and he doesn’t feel responsible for his kingdom. So when he heard the mysterious and beautiful voice of the girl who had saved him — it was enough to make him feel ready to marry.

The relationship: both have their heads in the clouds and cannot deal with their own problems. Eric will likely embark on a new adventure, and of course Ariel will accompany him wherever he goes. But it is not known how long this relationship can sustain this way.

Prediction: there are two options. Either they’ll live happily ever after because they’re both not very wise, or after a while they’ll separate because they don’t really know anything about each other, and Ariel will probably get bored with the prince.

Beauty and the Prince — Beauty and the Beast

Lovely: along with their father, they represent the thinking elite of the village. Bela’s father is a decadent and eccentric inventor, but he loves his daughter unconditionally. Belle, being so well educated, has eyes for nothing in her village but books. She prefers reading to interacting with other villagers. But what is most difficult for her is having to deal with the courtship of the most popular guy in the village – Gaston. But for her father’s sake, she was ready for anything.

The prince: he was a bad-tempered man, out of control, sincere and direct. Compassion was foreign to him who judged people only by appearance and so he was turned into a monster. To break the spell, the prince had to find someone who loved him for his personal qualities, not his looks. He wasn’t going to change his way of life until he met Bella.

The relationship: connected only because of the spell, Belle seemed more impressed with the prince’s library than how he used it to try to regain his human appearance. The prince will remain in love with Belle, but soon she will get bored and will want to live the adventures she always dreamed of.

Prediction: two options are possible here. Either the prince will be ready to travel the world with his sweetheart, and then they will live happily ever after, or Belle will soon realize that her thirst for adventure is more important than love, and she will leave the prince.

Shrek and Fiona — Shrek

Fiona: a princess sitting in a tower waiting for a prince or knight to save her and dreaming of love. She knows little about the world around her and is plagued by a curse that turns her into an ogress at dusk. She is lively but has low self-esteem due to the duality she lives in. Only thanks to another ogre does she understand that appearances are nothing when compared to love.

Shrek: he is surly and reclusive, but quite vulnerable. He just hides behind his toughness, self-centeredness and stubbornness. He wasn’t interested in anything but his own swamp and he wouldn’t change a thing in his life. Fiona was just a way for him to live in peace in his little corner, but in the end…
