Tragedies that happened on Friday the 13th

The morbid fear of Friday the 13th, called frigatriskaidekaphobia, a date that many consider prone to bad luck, is a type of superstition spread worldwide. There are several movies on the subject and even a computer virus with the name. It is estimated that, globally, from 13 million to 800 million dollars are lost, just because people are afraid to go shopping, travel or do business on Friday the 13th. But is it really an unlucky day?

O awesome.club decided to research the subject. Is it just superstition or a day when it really pays to stay home under the covers?

Buckingham Palace was destroyed during World War II on a Friday the 13th

According to war documents🇧🇷 the German army dropped 5 bombs on Buckingham Palace and the chapel on September 13, 1940. Although the royal family were in residence at the time, luckily no one was hurt.

On Friday the 13th, at 1:30 pm, lightning struck a 13-year-old boy.

During the Lowestoft Seafront Air Show in England, lightning struck a 13-year-old boy holding an umbrella. The boy survived, leaving with only a burn on his shoulder and staying in the hospital for a few days.

The Costa Concordia cruise ship sank off the coast of Italy

The Italian cruise ship Costa Concordia sank on January 13, 2012. This was the largest passenger ship to ever sink, causing the deaths of 32 crew members. The Costa Concordia had twice as many people as the Titanic🇧🇷

“Black Friday” burned half of Victoria, Australia

On October 13, 1972, two plane crashes occurred.

One of the most famous air accidents in history, the crash in the Andes of a plane carrying a Uruguayan rugby team to Chile, occurred on Friday, October 13, 1972. The story became known because some of the survivors had to eating the flesh of dead friends to stay alive and for the case of overcoming these survivors that led to the rescue of the group. That same day, the crash of the Aeroflot-217 aircraft turned into the worst air catastrophe in Russian history. All 174 passengers on board were killed in a landing attempt due to bad weather. However, the cause of the accident has not been clarified until today.

Tragedy in Bangladesh in 1970

On Friday, November 13, 1970, Bangladesh was hit by Cyclone Bhola, which caused a tsunami and resulted in the deaths of around 500,000 people. In addition, 90% of livestock and agriculture were destroyed. This catastrophe caused a large-scale famine over a long period. Bangladeshis have since considered that day to be one of the most horrific in the country’s history.

A computer virus has affected Great Britain

On Friday the 13th of January 1989, a computer virus affected the whole of England. The virus erased personal files from all computers and slowed down their functioning, but fortunately, appropriate measures were taken, preventing it from spreading around the world.

But a lot of good things also happened on a Friday the 13th.

Most importantly, despite all the stereotypes, technically, Friday the 13th is Friday. Which means it’s a good day as it indicates the start of the weekend!
