Think too much

I think too much? Have you ever asked yourself this question? If you’re nodding your head, that’s right, you’re thinking too much. But don’t worry, because thinking too much is very common, almost all of us do it. However, the question we propose to resolve today is whether or not it is good to do so.

Often mulling over ideas leads us to fall into melancholy (Whoever hasn’t felt it at some point, raise your hand). They are also present in obsessions, phobias, depression and, ultimately, in feelings and passions.

Let’s imagine that our question is a seed. This little seed could grow, generating more and more branches. That is, a question can be the first of many others that it gives rise to, which can be constant and never end. Thus, a vicious circle is created that will only be broken when we stop thinking about it. It is mentally exhausting and can cause headaches or migraines.

Thinking too much sometimes becomes an infinite loop that generates discomfort, from which we do not get anything clear and we do not obtain a solution.

The disadvantages of thinking too much

In addition to mentally exhausting ourselves, thinking too much has other drawbacks. Have you ever stopped doing something because you spent too much time thinking about it? Have you ever thought about what you would have said to someone else if you had the time to do it? Trains pass and you can get lost.

If we stay at the same station, The trains can pass again… Or not. But in any case, we cannot always make the same mistake. If we have not done something we wanted to do because of the doubts that invaded us and took over our minds, it is very likely that we will do the same thing next time. And opportunities do not have a fixed schedule, we do not know when they will arrive.

Every poison has an antidote. Voltaire said: “a collection of thoughts must be a pharmacy where a remedy for all ills is found.” As you know, antidotes are made from poison, although if we exceed the appropriate dose, we will not be cured, quite the opposite.

Thinking too much among hundreds of chaotic thoughts can lead you to make statements that may not be true.

If we want to avoid it, we can do it. For example, we can start doing other things by getting away from that thought that torments us: playing sports, listening to music, going to the movies… However, if the thoughts are strongly installed in our mind, it may take an effort to distract them with this.

Therefore, it is important to get to the heart of the matter. Discover what is causing us to find ourselves in this situation. Sometimes, it is an excess of worry that gets us nowhere, but being aware of how unproductive it is is a very important step.

Meditate, a great help to stop thinking too much

A good way to stop overthinking is to meditate. Contrary to what is usually understood in the West, it does not mean thinking and thinking, but quite the opposite; don’t think about anything, leave your mind blank, like a virgin sheet of paper. Let us be guided by our thoughts, but not control us.

Sometimes it will be difficult to leave our mind completely blank, but this does not mean that we are doing it wrong nor do we have to end up getting overwhelmed. Meditation helps us observe those thoughts without clinging to them and releasing them to run their course. That way, we will not be chewing them in a constant and harmful way and we will know how to get out of that circle of thoughts in which we had immersed ourselves and did not know how to get out.

“It is simply about sitting quietly observing the thoughts passing through you. Simply observing, not interfering, not judging, because the moment you judge, you have lost pure observation. The moment you say “this is good, this is bad” you have jumped in the thought process.”

-Osho-

We are the owners of our lives and we must make use of it in the best possible way. Eliminate negative thoughts It will not only benefit us, but also our friends, acquaintances and close family.
