They can steal your idea, never your talent.

It has happened to all of us. Suddenly you come up with an idea that seems good to you or you find the key to something at work, for example, and someone decides to make it their own. It’s too late to reclaim your property: it’s been stolen from you and you’re frustrated.

If we’re realistic, on the other hand, you may have done the same thing with someone else’s idea. It is totally normal that it happens, even if it does not seem right or fair to us. That is, ideas fly, they are free once proclaimed aloud and are exposed to any mind. In fact we are bad at remembering sources, we are good at remembering ideas.

However, remember something whenever you are overcome with indignation over something like this: they can take away your idea, but never your talent or ingenuity.

Talent is personal

Talent is unique, personal and non-transferable. It is a powerful weapon that speaks about ourselves and the way we view the world. It is not something that can be borrowed or copied. Talent is natural and only asks to be enhanced to give the best results.

If you think that you have no talent, you are wrong: surely there is something in which you can exploit everything you have inside. You just need to look for it with enthusiasm and then work on it. Thus, new ideas, personal creations or interesting reflections will emerge that others may take away from you but never conceive.

“Talent is deeply unfair: “cannot be transmitted”

-Vittorio Gassman-

Dedicate enough time to it and you will see how you can find the place where you can show everything you are worth. It is never too late, it is never too difficult and it is never impossible to achieve.. You just need to believe in yourself and trust in the possibilities that our abilities offer each of us.

It is good to be nourished by the ideas of others

Contrary to what it seems to us when it is stolen from us, sharing an idea is not such a bad plan. It is true that Plagiarism or copying hurts, but the transmission of concepts from one mind to another nourishes us as people. After all, it is a way to spread knowledge.

“Ideas are like living beings.

They are born, grow, proliferate, confront other ideas and finally die.”

-Bernard Werber-

What good is it to have ideas if we can’t see them grow? To see them come true, we need to push them and give them life until they become something else or die. If they are ours, it is fair that they come from us, but their ultimate purpose is to proliferate among others. There is nothing wrong with them being born in us but growing in others.

Throughout history, in fact, later generations have constantly taken advantage of the knowledge and ideas of previous generations. Thus, we owe the comforts of our present to those who shared their wisdom and, incidentally, their talent with us. For this reason, it is beneficial to respect an idea that a colleague has and at the same time help develop it without taking away the merit it deserves.

Talent requires effort

As we said above, Talent is natural but it needs to be worked with effort. In fact, if you want to enhance it in some way, it must be managed correctly: focus on the place where it can be developed and have the right attitude to do so.

No one can take that away from us once we have achieved it. If we have talent within a company, we will find the way to demonstrate it; even if they steal ideas, reflections and projects from us. Talent is something that is noticed when it is exploited to the fullest.

“Many believe that having talent is lucky; “Nobody believes that luck can be a matter of having talent.”

-Jacinto Benavente-
