The product you have at home and it is perfect for cleaning silver

Silver tends to blacken over time because, due to its components, it becomes sulphured. But it has a solution. There is no reason to give up rings, earrings or chains that have an aged appearance and that can even stain the skin. The same goes for silver cutlery. In both cases, there is a remedy.

Although there are many products to clean silver, there is an inexpensive home remedy that can restore the shine to silver in a simple way.

Baking soda is the best product to clean silver. It's not magic, it's chemistry. For cleaning there are two options: one easy to get out of the way and another to clean in depth. Here we explain both.

Method 1 to clean silver

In the simplest procedure, only a piece of paper cleaning cloth (something thick to prevent it from breaking easily) and a tablespoon of baking soda, which we will put in the center of the paper. Next, you just have to put the silver piece in the baking soda and with the help, make a small packet with the paper and rub the jewel so that the baking soda particles “scratch” the surface to remove all the dirt.

Method 2 to clean silver

For deep cleaning, a more sophisticated “experiment” must be carried out. You have to heat a little water and dissolve the baking soda in it. In the container you have to put a piece of aluminum (it can be made of aluminum foil) or, directly, the container is made of aluminum to skip this step.

With everything ready, you have to insert the silver jewel and check that it is in contact with the aluminum. Then, add a little more hot water and baking soda until the piece is completely clean.

Either method is very useful to rejuvenate our jewelry in a very economical way. A can of baking soda, depending on its size, can cost about 2 or 3 euros and goes a long way.
